Yeah....I dont think that is Porsche approved duct tape. Looks like an aftermaret knock off they charged you Porsche prices for.

Wow! They're obviously well-versed in the multitude of uses and versatility of duct tape, a good sign if ever I saw one. I'd stick with those guys... :rolleyes:

Hell no mstimley, say it isn't so. I would send that picture to P of north america or at least threaten to( if it was a dealership), Gee, what, they didnt think you would notice afer the duct tape failed in a month? I see oil changes for life in your future, if you can trust them. :mad:

That is completely unacceptable.
I would go talk to the manager of the dealer and demand they refund you and fix it properly. I would also send that picture to Porsche North America anyway, they shouldn't be doing anything like that to anyone.

Well, let's give the service department the benefit of the doubt. I don't know exactly what I am looking at but its obvious that this is not a new car and probably out of warranty. Perhaps the tape is instead of replacing an expensive part or a part that was on back order and they were trying to save you money or time.

If I were you I would call the service manager up and ask him (in a nice way) to explain the duct tape. If he can come up with a decent reason why his technician did this then ok, if not there's plenty of time to scream to PCNA.

Hey, mp---This guy: :rolleyes: is the sarcasm emoticon. I, too, was pretty unimpressed with the workmanship pictured in the original post. When I go, I go to Cascade Porsche, in Cuyahoga Falls. No major complaints about them, so far anyway. But I haven't needed to use them much to this point (Knock on wood).

Recently, I put a grand in my Mountaineer, it was test driven before and after the repair by the manager of the facility. I pulled into traffic and was almost rear ended as it attempted to run on far less than eight cylinders. I managed to get it back to the facility where I was met by "there is nothing we worked on that could have caused this". I told the manager that the vehicle was driven upon arrival for evaluation and that although most repairs were to the suspension, changing the tensioner could have knocked something loose. He told me he didn't see how it could be his fault but he'd look at it. As I sat pondering whether this could have possibly just happened I was greeted by the mechanic saying he left the maf unplugged. It was test driven and approved for delivery to customer with maf unplugged, total douche move. The porsche dealer in town once gave me my car back leaking oil, the caliber of the car or repair center doesn't seem to be relevant.

PS No apology from manager Ahole either, now I wrench as much as I can, want it done meticulously? DIY

What is the part they jerry rigged? I cant' tell either. Thank god I don't live in the Cleveland area, Although I would never take it to a dealer(except extreme circumstances), as I enjoy doing that stuff myself

As for giving them the benefit of the doubt? :eek: Unless they were directed or ok'd by the owner to use duct tape, then there is no way in hell they are in the right. I don't care if its a million dollar part, and duct tape fixed it, you just don't duct tape a porsche. So there is no excuse for duct tape, as its not a permanent fix, 90% of the underneath of a porsche is either heat or weather related . duct tape isn't Made for temps or weather.

Hey, lets not dump on duct tape. If it weren't for duct tape, many of us wouldn't be here! :D

We all know Duct tape is 1 of the greatest inventions of our lifetime(along with superglu, remote control, microwave, indoor plumbing and the internet(porn net) :D maybe I am overblowing this, but I would have a problem if not told " Hey, i used some duct tape to..... Is that ok?"

It's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like the taped part is a breather hose that ties into the intake system near the throttle body and AOS. If the mechanic did that to keep something from rubbing on the hose, then I would consider that a fine use of duct tape. However, I suspect in this case that it's either to seal a hole in the hose or to secure the connection at the end of the hose. In that case the part was simply broken and needed to be replaced. No doubt, no question, I would take the car back to the dealership and demand that they fix it properly without additional cost.

Was that repair done at $135/hr or the "discount" rate of $85/hr?

When I was having my M3 serviced at the dealer when it was under warranty, I used to take a set of full exterior and interior photos before I brought it in. Takes only about 5-10 minutes. They came in handy more than once.
