Question on loacking car

Just bought a boxster 2003 facelift model (yesterday) The car was locking ok (no beeps) however today when I lock the car the alarm beeps once! would anyone know why? The only thing I did today was check if the Bose CD player was working. Can anyone please help??

The car will beep if the center console, doors, or trunks are not closed all the way. Check the center console, a lot of people forget to close it all the way from time to time.

I know you fixed it, but I liked the beep, gave me a little peace of mind that my baby was locked. I put in an after market cd player and mine beeps now. I couldn't be happier!!

I don't understand why Porsche put a monitoring switch on the center console. Frankly, if I didn't lock it, why would I care if it is latched or not? And if I did lock it, then I already know it's locked.

I also like the beep. And since I saw no value in the center console switch, I simply unplugged it (remove ashtray and reach under). So now the car thinks the center console is always unlatched, and gives me the beep.

The Boxster is a convertible. Hence the center console locks so you can park without having to put the top up, and keep whatever is in your center console safe from 'opportunity' theft.

Yes, I understand that a locking center console is useful for a convertible. But I have to manually lock it with the key. If I've just locked it, then I already know it's locked.

But if I haven't locked it, then I could really care less whether it is latched or not.

Perhaps the original idea was an automatically locking console that locks with the car locks. In that case it would be important to notify you if the console is latched or not. But then perhaps the concept of an auto-locking console was nixed by the bean counters, but the console monitoring switch was not removed, and became a useless left-over.

Just speculating.

Lile the beep? Just push the remote button twice rather than once.
