2000 Boxster S first time Porsche buyer

Never owned a Porsche before, I saw one Boxster S year 2000 with 95000mil..
for $14,000 US. Car looks nice and clean.very very attempting ;)
Is it a deal? Would I getting into a great risk? Engine problem?
Please expert advise :)

I will just address the price question, as I am sure you will get plenty of advise on what to look for mechanically. I believe in today's market you could purchase a nice 2000S for $12K if you are patient. Do the research and don't jump at the first one you see.

That seems like an awful lot of miles for that Price. I would expect to pay 14k for miles in the 30k range. I picked up my 2001 s with 58k miles for $12750 from ebay. I did have to fly to California to pick it up, but the ride back to Ohio was pretty cool.

I would search ebay's completed auctions and find a car you like that didn't sell. Send the seller an email asking his best price as you are a serious cash buyer. When if he send you a reply, Tell him "I mean you no disrespect but that is kind of high, I was thinking more of the lines $xx,xxx (lowball him). Just be prepared to get a yes. Its amazing. Cali buyers (most not all) are getting pretty desperate for cash. Their state is a mess.

You can also bid on the cars on ebay but not too high. The seller may give you a second chance offer if his reserve isn't met. That is how I got mine :)

Ps it doesn't work as well with "Dealers" And don't pay too much attention to buyit now prices as 90% of the boxster don't sell.

Here are a few to keep an eye on.

110k miler for $11k Probably would take $9000(I still wouldn't do it)

Don't think you'll get an s for lower than 15-16k from a dealer. Private party probably if they need the money..

Thank you all for these great advices.
In fact my biggest concern is the reliability of this toy. I've read this forum about blown engine, oil leak due to design problem that will cost more than 10K to replace the engine and it is not repairable.
I'm ready to spend 1K or more per year to keep this baby running but not for a 10K surprise ;)

While those were a concern for me also. I wouldn't let it get to you. They are few and far between. Remeber you here more from people with problems than from those without problems. just scan down through all the threads and see. its all sorts of problems. I would say the biggest problem(besides trying to figure out what oil to use) is the ignition switch($35 easy fix) or the plastic rear window needing replaced after 6 years or so.
