Paint matching question
 

I've got a burgundy ("arena red metalic") 00 with too many stone chips on the hood. Plus, a local Porsche dealer (HBL) did a remarkably poor job painting the front bumper for the previous owner I'm planning to paint the hood and bumper, and am wondering about matching paint. A local guy that did a great job on 2 projects for me said he mixes his own paint, and was very confident that he'd get it right, including the metalic. $600. I figured one needed the paint from Porsche to get it right. What do you all think?

well the Porsche factory paint might not match your car anymore because of weathering. Get a guarantee in writing for 100% satisfaction.

I had a black car before and that's one of the easier colors to match and still I had lots of problems and the job had to be done more than once. One thing to consider is how clean is the shop and their booth? You might get an excellent color match only to have it ruined by lint and dust adhering beneath the clear coat. $600 sounds right but its a shame the car is only four years old.
Look into getting STONGARD clear bra a couple months after the paint job.

You need someone who will:

Procure the base coat paints from Porsche

Have the ability to alter the color to match the color of paint on your car.

Apply the clear coat properly including wet sand and buffing.

Match the THICKNESS of the factory paint )about 4-6 milmeters thick.

If this is all done properly, the quality of the paint will be perfect to both the eye and the paint meter. Then, NO ONE will be able to tell there has been a re-paint.

These guys are out there. They guarantee their work. Find one and be willing to pay a bit more, it is worth it.
