Have you ever seen a Boxster with 20" spinners

I saw this on Ebay. Would this effect the performance or just ruin the look completely?

I like my stock wheels.......for now.

:)

Some people's taste is just simply awful...

Scbrindley 07-03-2009 07:42 AM

Those kill the look of the car. I'm not feeling the wing on the back either....something that size belongs on a 777.

Christian H 07-03-2009 07:55 AM

Hmmmm it not "A L@@K" so good to me

Topless 07-03-2009 08:13 AM

Ouch! I had to sheild my eyes from the horror.

Regarding performance: There are two things we know for sure that will make a Boxster slower. Three bags of cement in the trunk, and heavy 20" aftermarket rims. People do funny things to their cars.

mptoledo 07-03-2009 08:46 AM

I could have gone the rest of my life without seeing those and died happy. Now I know their is some with worse taste then me

At least they aren't hubcap spinners.

LOL I see this one guy near my work that has an Escalade with satelite TV and huge hubcap spinners. Looks really bad.

:o

mylamb 07-03-2009 12:57 PM

A salvage title & 20 inch spinners. I can't believe there are 22 bids on it... And you are right - hubcap spinners are as bad as those fake Quattroporte vents that people have been gluing onto their cars lately...

Although, luckily, I have never seen them on a Porsche...

ChrisZang 07-03-2009 01:12 PM

reminds me of this:

sd_boxster 07-03-2009 03:32 PM

Hah! I wondered when the donk pics would show up.

(Donks, for those of you who were until this moment blissfully unaware, are cars with stupidly huge wheels)

Incidentally, as further evidence that fools and money are not meant to be together, there are businesses that rent wheels to people who want to make their cars look stupid - because obviously they can't be expected to save $4K to buy 25" chrome wheels.

sd_boxster 07-03-2009 03:43 PM

Oh, to answer the original poster's question - running 20's on a Boxster would almost certainly have a negative impact on performance. Presumably they weigh more than the stock wheels, adding more unsprung weight that the Boxster's suspension isn't designed to handle.

I personally can't fathom why anyone would want to raise the center of gravity on a car like a Boxster.

Finally, larger wheels increase rotational inertia - even in the unlikely event that the 20" wheel weighs the same as a 17" wheel, moving some of the mass farther from the axis of rotation will require more energy for acceleration and braking.

I just hope someone rescues that poor Boxster and gives it a good home.

Well, there you go Chris, you've found your calling. Talk to some experts on charitable organizations, get 401 (c)(3) status, put together some fundraisers, start your own organization. You could call it the SPCB (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Boxsters).

Yeah, you know like "save the Greyhounds". You could start a recovery center and when the abused boxsters are healthy, you can release them back to the wild!!

RandallNeighbour 07-04-2009 12:04 PM

Frodo, that would be a 501c3.

And let it be known that I have a rescued Boxster. It's got a great home now and is as healthy as ever, but when I got it it was quite abused and messed up by at least one previous owner.

Here's a pic of my car just after I bought it (24 hours after purchase in fact). It had 17 inch ROH rims on it that don't look too bad, but were some seriously heavy aftermarket wheels:

Yes, Our Platinum Contributors will receive a picture of a rescued Boxster, in action, being driven on the Tail of The Dragon.

Buicks come with fake Quattroporte side vents as standard! The amount of ripping off there is simply amazing.

A Boxster with 20 inch spinners will look just as bad as an Escalade with 4 inch wheels (it looks ugly enough as it is already). Yeaaaaa

CRCGuy 07-07-2009 09:01 AM

OMG.. You guys are #%$*^&% hysterical! I had a crappy day at work and NEEDED a good laugh. This thread was absolutely worth it for that alone....

I needed a napkin to wipe the tears of laughter from my eyes.

I wonder if the seller is a member here  would love to see the look on his/her face!!!

Buick is actually not ripping off Maserati. Some older Buicks which predate the Quattroporte came with those vents as well...

"The horror... the horror !!"

cartagena 07-07-2009 02:40 PM

None of you noticed the same seller is also selling this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270421782143QQssPageNa meZMERC_VIC_RCRX_Pr3_PcY_BID_IT&refitem=2704157375 50&itemcount=3&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&usedr ule1=CrossSell_LogicX&refwidgettype=cross_promot_w idget&_trksid=p284.m183&_trkparms=algo%3DCRX%26its %3DS%252BI%26itu%3DSI%252BUCI%26otn%3D3

Now....I do not want to make a comment that might seem racist.....but I wonder....about.....ummm....no....lets not go down that road.

I am not even 100% sure that "pumps" are but I assume those are the things that make the car jump up and down?????

CenterIsl 07-07-2009 04:42 PM

And he just added another disaster:
2003 BMW 745Li sport with 22"rims.$27.000

"Black on black fully laoded (sic) with of the things you like!!"

RandallNeighbour 07-07-2009 06:29 PM

130k on the odometer. And he didn't even clean out the trunk before shooting a pic of it for the listing.

Paint looks decent for a salvage title though.

I'd give him 2 large for that car. Not a dime more though.

Ah in that case never mind, I need some education on classic American cars :(.

Some poor kid missed out on a bunch of child support payments so the owner could buy those "things".
I gotta admit, I'd probably stare at it if I saw the car on the street, while trying to look away.......kinda like noticing roadkill, then wishing that you never saw it!

CRCGuy 07-08-2009 07:41 AM

Along those lines.....at a stoplight once some dude pulled up with 22 spinners on a old cutlass supreme (even had 22" written on the side of the car). Obviously he wanted attention so I just STARED at him. the passenger yells out "What the F__ are you lookin' at?"

I said "You obviously want attention, so I'm just giving it to you"

Then he started opening the door and I immediately made a right turn and took off (yeh, I know...what a wuss).

So I clearly don't understand the psychology of someone who does something stupid just for attention----then gets offended when they get what they wanted.

mptoledo 07-09-2009 07:01 AM

I usually respond to "what the Hell are you looking at" with "Oh, i don't know, Dead beat dad, Highschool drop out or maybe both" or "Society's Problems" or "The new pro abortion poster child " depending on the situation.

Seriously,I really do stuff like that(only if deserved). I have never had a problem telling em like it is though. It makes them looked puzzled for a minute and sometimes they have to turn to their passanger and discuss it for a minute. By that time they can't even see my bumper. :D

RandallNeighbour 07-09-2009 07:31 AM

You might remain intact saying that kind of crap in Columbus, Ohio.

Here in Houston, if you shoot your mouth off to someone from the hood sporting 22's on his LeSabre, you would not be able to outrun the responsive gunfire. They would shoot their mouth off back at you along with their 9 mil.

I just think the stuff you might say to these individuals and work overtime not to even shake my head. That'll get you shot at as well.

Fortunately, they only hold the gun with one hand and hold it sideways to look cool and couldn't hit the broadside of a barn most of the time. When they kill others, it's from unloading an entire clip or using multiple weapons.

In this town, it's better to just let fools be foolish with other fools and not entertain them or draw attention to the fact that you are not a fool. Jealously never manifests itself in productive ways.

BTW, there's a large number of 911 air cooled purists with bone stock cars in my local PCA chapter who say the exact same things about me in my water cooled boxster because I sport 18 inch Carrera lights and I have aftermarket skirts on the car.

I guess it's all a matter of perspective and attitude within that perspective.

If they did that to me in my Boxster...I'd whip out my 9 and busta cap in their asses......

oh wait....I don't have my Boxster yet. Or a 9. Damn....

mptoledo 07-09-2009 10:01 AM

I have a little more sense than to say it to the wrong people, and yes sometimes you can't tell. But some people need to be told they are idiots, because they are just too dumb to figure it out themselves. :p

I always find a big bore, like my kimber or glock 45cal, does a lot more damage and is more accurate than some wanna be ganster. and with my conceal carry permit, I take it with me where ever I go. :D A 16" mossberg 500 12ga might be a little harder to explain to the cops but it will definately get the job done. Just remember when seconds count, cops are only minutes away.

RandallNeighbour 07-09-2009 10:22 AM

I like to leave the news that "you're an idiot" up to those who do it most effectively... police officers. They don't have to make excuses or do jail time when they unholster a weapon.

Just food for thought. I don't any more to add to this thread.

LoveBunny 07-09-2009 01:05 PM

see, there should be a law against pimps being permitted to buy Boxsters. :p

husker boxster 07-09-2009 02:42 PM

Attempting to get this thread back on topic....

The 'junk in the trunk' is probably the box of parts they took off to repair it and didn't know where to put back.

cartagena 07-09-2009 03:02 PM

The bid on the Cadi is up to $215.39

Seems like a strange number. I think I might bid $216.00 to help the brother out. :D

husker boxster 07-09-2009 06:15 PM

In honor of Buick, I put in a $225 bid for the Cadi.

Sadly, I was immediately outbid. :(
