Buying of C4s

what would a high optioned c4s cab 2004 go for? here are the particulars:

This car with the following options: Bose, Xenon, dimming mirrors, twin sport seats, full leather, sport exhaust, floor mats, wheel crests, and aluminum/chrome package. Yellow with black interior.
My friend is selling it and he offered it to me for 45K. it has 17000 miles on the clock, and I can personally atest that it is a garage queen. He drives it about 100 miles a month. Such a waste. Also I am not to fond of yellow, but if it is a good price I may get it.

James

That sounds like about $10,000 too high. Check autotrader for comps. Sounds like a nice car, though.

I agree with bmusatti. Def too high. Check ebay as well, you can find amazing deals there.

Every time I see a 911 cab, I'm reminded of why I bought the Boxster. It's so much better looking. When they redesigned the 993 to 996, they really made the back end frumpy.

All I know is...

Not many things can ruin or solidify a friendship faster than buying/selling a car between 'em...
...and it usually doesn't go the way everyone 'thinks' it will...

Better off w/ him upset you did not buy than you regretting buying it - especially since as you said you're "not to fond of yellow"

Yellow is definately a deal killer for me. I love the Guardmens red or Silver.

I am not sure what the different base prices are between a ragtop and hardtop. that will kind of give you a clue. Or you could run both with kbb.com or nada.com . It will give you the price differences. I will never pay over clean trade. A car is only worth what the market(individuals) are willing to pay. That is why I always go to ebay completed auctions. I like to see what actually sold. Funny thing is only like 1 out of 15 actually ever sell.

The miles seem great, but unless you are particularly looking for "all wheel drive", then you might want to look at a boxster "s". Just a thought. You could probably get two for what he is asking and the performance difference is negligible. I love the 50/50 weight distribution.

If you have your heart set on a 911, they are plenty of them out there. Check craigslist.com in the California area. The seem to be really hurting and seem really desperate for cash. I got my 2001 "s" 55k miles for $12,750 that way. I was just patient and gave it some time. Unless his reserve is met he might not even sell it. To me milage is relative as I will be putting plenty of miles on it myself. Good luck with your decision

PS I just noticed his is ending sunday july 5th. I am an ebay addict and I would think that is definately a bad time to end an auction. Right after an outdoor holiday. People will be out BBQ and probably won't be in there homes. Just my .02 cents

I drove it several times, and it did not really seems all that much faster than my boxster. It was quicker, like from 0-50 but after that it felt almost the same. I really am looking for a 996 twin turbo hard top black on black. He asked me if I wanted it because he knows how much of a porsche nut I am.

I just did not want to pass up on a good deal is all. I mean it cost 120 new. crazy how things get worthless after a while. This car still smells new inside. He is one of those people that has a lot of $$ and bought it just to have one, and drives his truck everyday to the hospital.

I don't think so... the C4S was like $80K new and $90K well optioned. The one I just got is better optioned than your friend's and stickered for $91K. I paid on the high side at $43K for mine with 35K miles, but I paid extra for the full TechArt body kit ($18K new), TechArt suspension ($3K new), and HRE wheels ($8K new). From what I saw in my research, a good low mileage C4S is going for about $38K on average, although there are of course lower cost vehicles out there.

One thing that is key about this car is that you know the history of it and know how it's been treated. That would have a lot of value to me. If your friend would sell it for under $40K, then I think it would be a fair deal. Drop the price $10K and it's a great deal considering the low mileage.

There is something wrong with that car then if it feels the same after 50, it has 75 more hp than the S. i remember the top end on my S was almost painfully slow, im kinda glad it blew so i could put a 3.6 in : )
