Smart Top hood relay for sale

Anyone interested in a Smart Top relay - fits 2000 model year onwards?
For those who don't know about the Smart Top relay it lets you raise and lower the hood without having to be stationary - just like the later models.
Current best price £232 from USA. I have one for sale that was fitted to my V reg Boxster for 3 months only. Best offer in region of £100

But the hack on the relay does not do.

- One touch up/down
- Stop the top automatically when speed exceeds 25mph/40km/h

And you bend the pin on the OEM relay, which to most people wouldn't be a problem but I like the drop-in solution of the SmartTop.

And...

for the hack to work, you still have to have the e-brake up at least one click, which is just annoying.

The one-touch is the most valuable benefit of the SmartTop. BahnTech AutoTop would be the other, less expensive way to do this, but it too requires to e-brake switch to be activated.

You don't need to bend the pin -- simply wrap pin 18 with some (thin, not electrical/thick) tape. Using a thick tape such as electrical, re-insertion is an issue.

I believe the pin 15 hack (along with the pin 18 hack) takes care of that, so that you don't need to pull on the brake prior to operating the top in a moving vehicle. The downside of course that there it'll work at all speeds.

GT_YellowJacket 06-18-2009 03:11 PM

Yeah, grounding pin 15 into the relay (without grounding the connection back into the relay socket, of course) will take care of the e-brake, but still no 1-touch operation, which is where these mods really add their value. Who wants to be moving, shifting, and holding that damn button for 12 seconds?

can someone please post a picture of where pin 15 and pin 18 are. Would that hack work on an 01 boxster?

Thanks

You posted the DIY link from Pedro's site in this thread. Pin 15 and 18 are located right on that relay, and are numbered as such. You can't miss it once you pull the relay out. It does work on an 01, as I've done the hack, and mine's an 01.

 i didn't know that the pins were numbered. I thought it was something you know or you don't. I did the top down while in motion hack but i didn't know there was one so i wouldn't have to click the hand break one click. I will try it later today. Thanks for your help
