I've always said that if God were to give me the opportunity to choose my mode and method of death, it would be behind the wheel of a Porsche at a very high rate of speed.
I would die with a big-ass grin on my face. There are much worse ways to die, that's for sure. If what you say is true, I guess I dream of owning a widow maker :) |
Too bad they don't make drop-top GT2s, or at least with a sunroof.

I betcha you will see a GT2 rag top sooner or later. They need their equivalent of a Bentley convertible. Afterall, They put a sunroof in the 997 GT3, I guess so you can get a tan while your at Laguna Seca!
Porsche need to sell big ticket cars and just in case some ultra rich dude says "give me your most powerful turbo powered car and oh by the way my wife insists that it be a convertible". They don't care if a purist or a poser buys, as long as they buy!! |
Bob:
I tell you what I'm gonna do for you. You buy that GT2 and no matter where you live, I'll fly out at my expense and bring my sawzall with me. I've got a new metal-cutting blade in it I've been dying to use and we'll cut you a sunroof in the top or take off the whole top... the more cuttin' I get to do the better! If you have a buddy that has a tig welding machine, he could slap a couple of aluminum cross braced underneath the car to give it some structural rigidity that the roof was providing and bob's your uncle, you just got yourself a GT2 Cabriolet! PM me with your info so I can book a ticket  PS - If anyone is reading this and Bob actually takes me up on it, your kind donations to my hospital bills would be greatly appreciated. Bob will have big hospital bills to pay too... Lord knows some Porsche lover will find us doing this to the GT2 and kick our butts fourteen different ways until we can't walk or talk or see out of either eye. |
We need to do a group buy!
Randall, Perfectlap and Bob each send my $19 large. I think I can negotiate the price down a little. Then we each get the car 4 months of the year. I respectfully request May-August. Here is a little tidbit regarding the GT2. It was traded in for a Caymen S! |
I love the idea of fractional ownership of a GT2 but I have a few pre-purchase questions...
Now how are you going to handle it when one of the four owners slams the car into a wall at a DE? Who pays for the control arms at $800 each plus labor this car will wear out in just one DE season? Does each fractional owner receive the car with new tires on it? :D |
Randall:
No DE's or Auto-X-ing. Your man Hans does all the labor and scheduled maintenance. We all pay 25%. Perfectlap does the big yearly detail stuff. We each send him a couple "Franklins" for his effort. Before we send the car to the next fraction owner, fresh Michelin Cup tires are put on at the current users expense. |
No DE's or auto-x?
Now why would I shell out $19k plus insurance costs on a car I can't drive the piss out of on the track, especially one designed for the track? BTW, I'm just being contrary here... and I think I want the car for the Tail of the Dragon trip each year :) |
Missed It By That Much!
Here is the e-mail I received today:
"Bill, I just wanted to send you a quick e-mail to let you know that the '03 GT2 you were enquiring about actually sold this morning. Thank you for your interest and if there is anything we can help you out with in the future, then please don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks. Sincerely, Adam Brooks Porsche of Omaha" |
Talk about pissing on a guy's campfire!
I knew that car wouldn't last long. Supercar performance for just $80k and a bumper to bumper warranty no less. Plus, the guy got the "ticket me red" paint job at no extra cost! Bill, if it's any consolation, that heap was six years old and had the cheap "plasticky" interior that my car has. Your 987's interior is much nicer, although you can't light up your tires for three blocks or do 0-100 in a five seconds. Let's find another one to dream about buying together. This thread was a lot of fun. How about we start a new thread and go in to buy one of those homes on a private race course and timeshare it? We could park a GT2 in the garage for occupant use. |
Good idea Randall, I've enjoyed this thread too. It really made me start dreaming....
There was a Porsche 959 that popped up on eBay a few years back. I was thinking about trying to work out a similar deal for a "group buy" to purchase that car. Let's see if we can't find a 959 for us to purchase together!!! :D I've got $40K that's just getting wasted right now with miserably low interest rates. Maybe it's time to invest in a part of something more enjoyable. Kirk |
Kirk, since all of this is just a way to piss away the work day for all of us, I'd like to recommend you invest some of that $40k in a place where it will do the most good and gain a LOT of interest:
Kirk, $40K won't even get you a 10% share. Those cars are well north of $400,000 now. Come to think of it, $40K won't even cover yearly expenses for tires, maintenance and insurance.
|
Haven't been online for a couple of days, so I wasn't aware the GT2 was gone. Stopped at Woodhouse after work today to check it out and see if it was plastered full of bondo, had bald tires, and no brakes. Heard the news about it's purchase. The new owners are a couple from Omaha, so it's staying in the area.
|
Husker, any idea what the final sale price was?
|
Didn't ask. They're as honest as car people can be and would've probably told me, but if the new owner traded something in, the numbers get fuzzy. When I traded in my 01S for my LE, we agreed on $21.5K for my trade. The paperwork showed $27.5K so they could pump up the purchase price of the LE and the trade-in price of my car. I didn't care, the amt I agreed to pony up wasn't different.
We know they didn't pay more than $80K. Like I said earlier, if you came in with some strong coin I'm sure they'd knock some off of that $80K. |

Same thing for those silly door sills, GT2 has the exact same door sill as mine but instead it says "GT2". There are people that would pay to upgrade to a set of aluminum or carbon fibre door sills. |
