98 Boxster w/ticking engine noise

Recently my Boster started making a ticking sound. It has 96,000 miles on it.
One person told me that it may be the timimg chain tensioner. I do know that the lifter are making some noise also. Does any one have an idea of what it may be and what the cost of repair would be.

There are a ton of rotating parts on an engine, any of which could be ticking. If you are not comfortable opening the engine covers and poking around, you should really get it looked at.

A previous (non-Porsche) car of mine started making a ticking sound on the way home, about ten minutes later it spun a bearing, threw a rod and self destructed. So it's worth getting checked out.
