Toyo vs. Yokohama vs. ??
 

Time to replace all 4 tires on my 2003. Originals were Continental, current are Toyo Proxes T1R. I'm happy with the Toyos, but the Yokohama S Drive model is a bit less expensive (Yoko Advan S4 about the same price as Toyos). Any recommendations? FYI, I have 17" rims

Do you have a price range in mind? What is your application: street, autocross, DE, over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house, a bit of each?

Primarily street driving, with a little fun cornering now and then but nothing terribly aggressive. The Toyo's are running $150ish for the fronts, $170 rear.

My PS2's are just about done and after doing some research I've decided to go with Dunlop Direzza Star Spec tires. The price is good and they are a better tire for autocross/track use than the PS2's. If you are looking for a long wearing all season tire this tire wouldn't apply, but if you want a lot of grip in a street tire then look no further.

+1 on the Dunlop Direzza Star Spec if you are looking for handling. The Yoko S Drive is a good choice as well if you are looking for tread ware over handling. Both should be priced far less than any OEM N rated Porsche tire.

My 17" track wheels have Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec and 18" street wheels are Dunlop SP Sport Maxx. I have been pleased with both tires and either is in your price range. That both are Dunlops just worked out that way. Prior to this I ran Bridgestone RE050A Pole Position but their price is significantly higher.

FYI for the Star Spec in 17" you need to get a 225/45-17 front. It fits just fine. Price from Tire Rack is $129 front and $161 rear.

As an inexpensive tire many say good things about the Sumitomo HTR Z III.

When I was looking, the Bridgestone SO2 pole position were getting favorable reviews. Tirerack.com has a menu where you can compare many brands and reviews.

I put the Yoko S drives on my car in the Fall and they're excellent tires. The roads in Oklahoma are terrible, always construction, large potholes, poor surface conditions, etc. They've been excellent to me. My only comparison on the Boxster would be the extremely poor tires that were on it when I bought it, Hankook Ventus. Night and day difference. The Yoko's don't produce much road noise and the tire wear is excellent. :cool:

I am very happy with my Goodyear F1's but if I was going for an economical tire I would definitely consider the Nexxens that NickCats has. They lasted a long time, are pretty decent at AX's, and are pretty cheap.
