Satellite radio (plug and Play)

Here's a pic of my Sirius AudioVox PNP3. Its the model that most matched my Boxsters lighting and interior trim colors. Looks almost stock.
I ordered a Becker Auxiliary Jack for $20 and connected the line out plug directly to the back of the CDR220 Porsche head unit. The Satellite antenna is in the right corner of the dashboard.

I had the Sirius unit hardwired so I could save the cigarette lighter for the Valentine One Radar detector. I may have to reverse who gets the cigarette lighter because I'm getting alterator whine. I also added the PNP rear speakers not knowing that OEM speakers had been back there all along. The two previous owners hadn't connected the speakers and only put 10,000 miles on the car. I take the Sirius with me to work and have a connector for my PC that looks just like one in the car.

So Far I'm really digging the Satellite radio. No more bloody 10 minutes of commercials and the playlists on Sirius seem to be pretty good so far. Once in a while I'll unplug the line out and connect my mini Ipod.

here's how it looks when I lock up the car before work. The V1 fits in the cubby hole and I can keep it plugged in. Just need to remember to turn it off.

I had XM radio in one of my BMWs. It was great feature. That one had a tuner built right into the Alpine stereo unit. Easy install for sure.

Good stuff! Your install looks awesome.

yeah the headunit is the way to go. Maybe Porsche will start including Sirius or XM with the 987. I didn't want to replace a perfectly good headunit but after spending $50 for the car adaption unit and $30 for the cubby hole bracket well that's already $180 total, which is what low end headunits with built in Satellite radio start at. But the display is a little cooler on the PNP screen. THere's a even a ticker on the CNBC channel.
On my treks into NYC from NJ I have to switch to FM radio when going through the tunnels and every time there have been commericals playing all the way through the tunnel  !
I better keep a CD in there and just disable FM altogether.

Yours looks very very cool!

euh...guys, sorry to say, but to me looks like you are in taxi all these wires etc

yes I'll have to get some flex tubing to pass the wires through for a more stealth look. But the detector and Satellite raiod are both TOO important to leave out. Speeding tickets ($$$$) and avoiding the same 12 songs played all day are worth a little less clean appearance.

What is the thing that looks like a mirror on the windshield?

Perfectlap 02-14-2005 08:58 AM

a passing mirror for the Boxster blind spot. Very useful at night. I look for headlights in the mirror and then swithc lanes. Helps with merging from off ramps too.
