Rotor Hats – heat resistant paint or regular?

Hi,

Even though I have a driving issue that I can’t bottom out (please see:

I do have other stuff to get on with…..

Next in line are new front rotors that are sitting in a box in my garage.

The calipers need painted, but an easy job I can do before getting the car up on stands is to paint the rotor hats.

Do I need heat resistant paint or can I just go with something regular like Hammerite smooth?

Do you guys go for a gloss finish or something more matt / satin?

Well the rotors are essentially large heat sinks. Their function is to get hot.

How hot is mainly a function of how you drive the car, so hi-temp paint is not out of place here. Can you get by with 'normal' paint? Maybe, but probably not for the same length of time before it starts peeling and/or changing color due to the constant heat.

I'm painting my rotor hats too and had the same question. I couldn't find a really definitive answer on the Net, but by and large everyone seemed to be using high temp paint. It only makes sense as the rotors can get very hot, even glow! As to gloss or matte finish - that's really up to your personal preference.
