I have only had a few people try to race me, mostly rice rockets. I never street race, and rarely go over the speed limit because I prefer to accelerate to the speed limit quickly (theirs no law against that).
But there are a few areas where two lanes become one on the other side of the stop light, and if anyone tries to race me there ... well they lose.

Psh, I ignore people trying to race me. I don't feel like getting my car impounded anytime soon. Either way, nine times out of ten, the people that challenge me are driving some sort of hideous rice rocket laden with cheap parts. Things like Lancer Evo's and STI's come to mind. And most of the people who drive cars like that, are also probably 16-18 years old and in need of something to boost their ego.

If I wanted to race with kids in cheap plastic cars, I'd get some quarters and go to the arcade. No offense if anyone has one of those here, but I've never had much love for rice rockets. But that should be obvious by now, haha.

I live near Microsoft, so I can hardly drive on the freeway without an M3 whizzing past me. Used to be really jealous of M3 drivers, but not since I got my Boxster.

That's what I thought also. About 10 years ago when I had a 951, I accelerated quickly from a stop light, never speeding just right up to the speed limit and let off. A cop going the opposite direction flipped around and pulled me over. He wrote me a ticket for "excessive acceleration". Keep in mind I never broke the tires loose or anything but, it had a Fabspeed exhaust and was a bit on the loud side. I ended up fighting it and won but, I thought it was a bit a ridiculous and a waste of time.

Surprisingly, I've only had a few people attempt to race me in my first six months and every one of them was a European car. A few Audi's, a VW and a Volvo. It didnt make sense to me! I never raced any of them. I go fast for my own enjoyment, not to get into some dick measuring contest with the idiot in the next lane.

bah! i've been pulled over twice and got a ticket once several years ago from a cop who pulled me over for accelerating too quickly. he said it was reckless driving. i never got over 35 mph either time. ( both in dallas in a red eclipse, by the way )

the one time i was going > 100, the cop in the median didn't even care to pull me over. ( not that i condone that sort of thing! )

Mustang has the worst brakes of any sports car I have ever driven.

on

off

Very one dimensional factory set up...

There's one thing I know right off the bat by a guy looking to race me.
1-He doesn't know how to drive, doubt I've ever heard of an experienced driver partaking in street races.
2-He doesn't know a thing about Porsches.

Will be interesting when some MY09 Boxster S PDKs get out there.

If we believe the latest road tests, it will crush every car in your list, possibly even the Corvette (unless Z06) if you have Sport Chrono Plus and use launch control.

But I agree---it's not worth 6 points on your license or having it suspended. rediculous really. Now if they want to meet at a local drag strip or autocross event....let the games begin.

Talking

Now I am in Colorado and No I am not dumb when it comes to racing, but there are some people who just like seeing a nice car blast off of the line just to get a smile. I see that all of the time. Yes Evo's and Sti's have raced me, Off the line the boxster S is still faster. I also have a buddy with an S200. He ate my dust too.

The thing is that if you can pick out the difference between the egotistical maniacs and the kids that just want a little fun, a little red light drag(to the speed limit) is always a good time.

I have put so many smiles on kids in Hondas that eventually want a Porsche in life just by revving it up and jetting away.

Life is here to enjoy, just don't be dumb.

Yes!

I hate to say it, but more than once in my S2000 when some "ego maniac" wanted to race is I revved my engine like mad, gripped the steering wheel with purpose, gave them a nod, then when the light turns green I.....did nothing! Just sat and watched them peel out for a second or two (and waited to see if that white SUV approaching from behind was an unmarked patrol car) I know....what an A___E! But what a smile on my face--which is why I bought a roadster to begin with

Not a good idea if someone is directly behind you or you'll be buying a new bumper.

Typically, when some teen just wants to have fun, I find they'll actually lean towards the window with hands at 10 and 2 and just ask! "hey dude, wanna burn one?" To which I reply, "I'd love to, but not worth it" The ego maniac often just looks over at you and revs his engine with his hand on top of the steering wheel like a dork.
