Painted muffler flat black...

I had my exhaust tips powdercoated flat black a while back - and I've been obsessing about how much I dislike the bare-metal muffler. I went on a painting spree today (my wife's Jeep got a freshly painted bumper step and a flat-black muffler and tailpipe), then the Boxster went up on the ramps and got the flat-black muffler treatment.

Autozone carries high-temp porcelain spray in a rattle can - I spent about six bucks on the paint and used about $40 worth of painter's tape to mask off the Boxster.

It's a little hard to make out in the pic - but the muffler is now a much more neutral color and makes one a lot less likely to concentrate on what's behind the diffuser.

That looks pretty cool, I hope the paint stays on and doesn't smell too much for the first few hours.

I did the same thing with my Pedro modified muffler a few weeks ago. I used flat black engine paint and have had zero issues with paint smells. I like the look, I'll post some pictures a little later. You can also see more of mine since I don't have diffusers.

I've actually been thinking of doing this for the longest time as well!!! I hate that you can see the exhaust.

One suggest, since you have the 03, like myself, you might want to consider putting on the 550 grill.

From Suncoast:

Mines, painted black:

I purchased mine for $100 on Ebay OEM, retails for $224 on Suncoast Porsche:

Red face One more project for the list...

Great idea - will be perfect for my black boxster. Just add it to the to-do list

exhaust tip is one thing, but painting the entire muffler black alters the emissivity from about 5% to 90%.

any concern about heat radiating out to the underbody of the car?
