Lowering the top clarification

Somehow, randomly, I got into a small debate yesterday with another Boxster owner about this.

When lowering the top, do you close the latch before the top stows, or do you leave it unlatched? I have always been taught to close the latch before the top stows on most any convertible, and I do this with my Boxster. The gentleman I was debating this with claims that the top is designed to stow with the latch unlatched.

My owner's manual is somewhere in a box in the basement, so I can't quickly look this up, but just thought I'd ask how everyone else does this....

When I first bought my Boxster I would close the latch all the time, but then I read the manual and it indicates that you just leave it open. And, the windstop is designed to just clear the open latch as the top moves past it.
Now I leave it in the open position all the time.

I have always left the latch open on mine. Have lowered the top more times than I can count but have never had a problem. Of course don't forget to do the Boxster chop (pre 2003)

Hmmm I've always closed mine but apparently it doesn't matter if you leave it open. I used to have to do the "chop" until I replaced my top with GAHH glass top, which I'm very happy I did!
