Thank you SO much ! I was really hoping you would chime in. Of course the 911 is my first choice, but my concerns are exactly what you addressed in your post.

I don't consider the backseat in a 911 to be useful, for even children. How about the 968? Didn't they have a reasonable back seat and are still relatively modern?

I think the CLK and any of the BMW's (including the M3) are just boring looking. I'd personally want a two door 2+2 with RWD or AWD. Preferably European and sexy looking (rules out Benz). This is what I've been shopping for and I pretty much have it narrowed down to the G35/G37 (great back seat even for an adult, although not European), Porsche 968, or the Maserati Coupe GT ($30K used with low miles).

having said that, I like the A5, would consider an S5. Would also consider an A4/S4 or RS4 (if going spendy). I felt the the G35 back seats were about as comfortable as the Audi TT that has backseats. Maybe, slightly more room than a Carrera, but you are NOT fitting an adult comfortably, IMO. We have a Mini Cooper S that is functional. Not comfortable with a rear-facing seat (for passenger) but it is only a year and we don't go on to many Griswald familay vacations, so we are biding our time until 1year and forward facing. I like Mercedes, but if you do have the alternate car then this is relatively moot unless you have come down with car ADD. :dunno

Really??? That's odd, I found the G35 back seats to be pretty good. I could NOT fit in the Audi TT in the back, at least not with my head attached! The only way I fit back there was with the rear hatch raised up. Even my 13 year old daughter just barely fit in the back of the Audi TT. The G35 was very comfortable for me and seemed a good fit for a reasonably sized adult. My girl and I took a G35 for a spin with the salesman in the back and he fit just fine... I guess your mileage may vary.... :p

I grew up in the back of a 911... it did get a little tight as I got older, but I never minded since I was in the back of the Porsche! :cheers:
