Caliper DECAL question

i'm going to paint my calipers and am about to order the caliper decals.. i'm probably going to paint the calipers RED and will do white PORSCHE decals.

I have seen some people say they got decals from xenonmods.com vs the dealer guys like sunset or suncoast...

the xenonmods stickers look cheaper, but he has a zillion choices for sizes... whereas suncoast parts has 3" or 4"...and I know of THAT site to pick the 3" size for my boxster....

what exact size off xenonmods am i supposed to use..

also - are the stickers any different from either source - is one better than the other or will one last longer??

I bought mine from xenonmods.com and asked them to send me the same size as the lettering on S calipers. You can also pull a wheel and measure your white paint on the black caliper and match that.

Mine are doing fine and have lasted a long time, even though I heat up the calipers a LOT and they are not clearcoated.

I would not be surprised if all of the sources you listed are using vinyl lettering and it's identical. If so, go with the cheapest source.

I would avoid xenonmods, The guy who runs it is pretty dodgy, he apparently only likes to ship to certain people. You can get the decals on eBay for a reasonable price, and if you spray clear coat over the decals, the quality is not that important.

Avoid xenonmods!!!

They shipped my order partially and refused to ship the rest. I would email for weeks and they would not respond.

I tried to get my money back since I paid with PayPay and then they said they would ship it. Sent me a shipping confirmation and all.....well nothing every came, never dropped the package to UPS, empty tracker. They are scammers!!!

Buy from Ebay or Suncoast.

thanks.

any of you guys think it makes a BIG difference if I get the G2 kit vs the duplicolor system?

from my searchingonline here it sounds ilke the G2 is epoxy based and the duplicolor is NOT and that G2 WILL look better. not necessarily twice as good - but I've read enough posts from people who have used both and those who did said to use G2.

i will probably order G2 and if I dont get it time to do it this weekend, i'll just do it next wekend.

I've got a new exhaust coming on Thur/Fri that I am going to be installing on Sat/Sun. :)

I used xenonmods and they were great, everything went like clockwork.

So, I guess that reinforces what rick3000 said about them being dodgy. Sounds like if you catch them when they're 'in the mood' things turn out OK, if not you'll have trouble.

xenonmods and the various ebay people seem to all sell SIX stockers for about $6-7.

if i order from suncoast, they want $6 EACH.

i can't imagine the ones suncoast sells are THAT much better?!?!??!

i'm thinking i'llj us torder the stickers either from xenonmods or someone on ebay.

i decided to go with red calipers and white letters. for a while i was toying with teh idea of going yellow on my calipers...but after looking at a lot of pics online, i like the more "normal' red. yellow is a bit "much" for me. i like the fact that my car is very subtle looking - and red, while it will make the brakes standout more, is still a more subtle color for brake calipers.

i ordered the G2 kit. now i just need my stickers. :)

are the "caliper" decals that suncoast sells something "special" designed for brake calipers or somehow hi temp resistant or are they just the exact same vinycl stickers that my local dealer sells in the parts department?

there is a Porsche dealer very close, and I may just buy the stickers from them - rather than order online and pay shipping - unless there is a "special" type of sticker that is MEANT for calipers???

i called the parts dept at hte local dealer and hte guy has "stickers" but he had no idea if they were for calipers or not...

anyone here know if there's anyh difference? any stickerw ill work or are they somehow thinner or specially made for the calipers?

RandallNeighbour 03-25-2009 01:28 PM

The caliper stickers being sold are simple vinyl stickers. Nothing special.

If your dealer sells them and isn't ripping your head off like most dealers do, go for it.

I bought from Xeononmods with no problems. They sent via regular mail to Canada for me and even included 2 free extras. They have held up really well applied over my Duplicolor paint job. No clearcoat.

I just asked for the brake caliper decal size.

I am trying to figure out which decal size I should buy for my calipers. Here are my ebay options:

(6) 3.5" x 0.25" EACH

Or

3 Large Front / 3 Small Rear - Front 4' Wide , Rear 3' Wide

Which one is better for my 01 Base Boxster?

That's best left up to you. Do you want in feet or inches"??? :)

rick3000 05-27-2016 01:21 PM

I'm pretty sure the calipers are all the same size, so I'm not sure why you would use different sizes. I used 3.5" decals, which is the standard size.

JayG 05-27-2016 01:24 PM

The front and rear calipers have the same size lettering, at least on my Boxster

Gforrest2 05-27-2016 02:00 PM

+1 for the Ebay decals. I put them on many years ago and they've held up fine. Didn't clear coat them or anything. And like others have said, they send out six in case you mess up.

tommy583 05-27-2016 05:01 PM

+986 I have had these on for 4 years with no clear coating. They have held up great.

stelan 05-27-2016 06:21 PM

Yo can also go to any sign shop and get them cut, ask them to use high-performance white vinyl and not intermediate as the high performance will last for ever.

Rufcar 05-28-2016 06:27 PM

1st pic is worn out script dirty caliper and undercarriage 2nd pic is the on line decal we are talking about applied after cleaning and coating everything except the caliper as they are just really clean now.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1464488751.jpg
