Polyurethane/plastic GT2 Front Bumper?
I've searched around and have only been able to find GT2 front bumper for the Boxster in fiberglass and FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic). Does anyone know where to get a polyurethane/plastic version? Thanks!

group buy!

Thanks for those. I've checked with NR Auto before and they seem to have nice bodykits (including the GT2 front), but they're made of FRP. If I'm going to pay $1500 for an unpainted bumper, I wish it was poly/plastic. There needs to be more producers of nice body kits that doesn't come in crappy fiberglass type quality. Argh.

The lip spoiler portion of the 996 turbo front bumper (not sure about the GT2) can take a beating on the FRP constructed bumper. It's like a hard rubber...I have one on my Boxster, and I've nailed it a few times, and it's fine. If you guys are interested in the NR Auto ones, let me know, I can do a group buy for you there. Mod/Admin, feel free to remove this post if it is against any rules, but I have an account there, and I can hook up a bumper group buy if you guys want.

Very gracious of you to offer. I think I may pass on FRP. From what I've been told, it's basically just a fancier name for what is commonly called fiberglass. $1500-2000 really is a lot to stake on fiberglass, IMO. |
What year is yours? I think 02+ is the poly one...

Heh, sux for me eh. I'll have to shop around for another bumper I suppose. If you ever become a wholesaler with any retailers for Boxster parts, make sure to let us know. It'd take some sting out of the overinflated prices of parts for Porsches. Pretty ridiculous... even labor rates for something as routine as suspension swap is like 2-3 times what it's cost me for my previous cars. |
if you search around you can find the GT2 bumper for less than $1300.
I agree that's still outrageously over priced for a fiberglass copy most front bumpers for other cars rarely exceed $600. On my Miata The entire four piece fiberglass body kit didn't cost $1000 and even that was the most expensive one available (click on my HTTP below my signature). But I had it on for almost five years and would bang the lower lip against my steep drive way entrance and it never cracked. |
what do you guys think the total would be if you ordered one of these GT2 bumpers for the boxster, including price + labor... and where do you bring it, the dealership to put it on?
|
most places sell the bumpers for about $1300-1500
one seller quoted shipping $100 and offered to paint it before shipping for $400. So approx. $1800-$2,000 :( The nose will make the wheel well bigger so unless you already have 18 wheels the bumper will make the 16 or 17" wheels look smaller. but the GT3 aero Kit II which is shatter resistant is $5,000 just for the parts! |
I have the 17" tuner style Porsche OEM wheels on my '99, and unfortunately, the front end scrapes if I am not careful coming in and out of driveways, etc. I will be putting on some 19's soon though, so we'll see how it looks/drives after that.

Nice... What 19's you thinking of getting?
