Replacement motor question
Just contacted the P-car dealer that sold and serviced my 03 CS that I just bought. Turns out it had the dreaded IMS failure about 20k ago. First question, is there any reports of more reliability out of the replacement engines? Second, do you know if there's any kind of warranty on them, like 2yr 20k or something? Thanks!
PS Hoping that lightning doesn't strike the same car twice... |
Sorry, don't remember the replacement warranty. Search the site, it has been discussed.
Keep all maintenance records and be prepared to negotiate with Porsche whenever you have a meltdown. Reliability has been hard to quantify. But the numbers do not seem nearly as bad as some people think. Excellence magazine has tried to address the M96 perceptions in several issues. I would not worry too much, enjoy the car. And as far as lightening striking twice, well I'm the kind of guy who doesn't mind flying after a crash. I figure what are the odds of another one so soon after? "Cept for that one in NY so soon after 9/11! |
Replacements fail..yes they do
There are reports of the same car having 2 engine failures.
Lets assume the engine was replaced under warranty, then the rest of the original car's warranty would apply. If the engine is replaced out of warranty and the owner pays for the replacement, then the warranty is 2 years, 24k IIRC. No idea if it is transferable. |
