CarFax states that this is a 2002 Boxster and that their database contains 25 records about the car. Of course to tell what these records are, you need to buy the report.

The 25 records could represent something negative about the car's past, or they could contain no usable information at all. It is not a reliable source.

For example, I ran my own car, in perfect shape, bought new, and never in an accident/incident and CarFax came up with 9 records. These were simply the registration and re-registrations over the past 10 yrs. (about to add another next week).

If an owner pays for services/repairs (incl. collision) themselves, many vendors will not report to CarFax. I've also seen CarFax generate reports on routine maintenance items such as alignments, new tires, and even oil changes.

If you're considering purchasing a Boxster, don't use CarFax at all, it's too unreliable. Get a PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection) done on the car by a qualified Porsche Independent or a Dealer, and ask for copies of any records they find (incl. PST2 or PIWII printouts) and any other info./ they come across. Also ask for estimates to corect any known or discovered faults with the car. All this information can be used when negotiating the price. If you insist on getting a CarFax report, add the proviso with the Seller that he deduct the cost of the report from the purchase price should you decide to buy his car.

I would suggest getting the car fax AND the PPI. The car fax can actually catch funny business with title issues and provides an ownership history that is generally reliable.

They are of no value on the condition of the car, as has been pointed out.
