2000 S vs 2005 S
 

Mu budget allows for a nice 2005 S but not a 2007+ S.

If I'm used to a 2000 S will I notice the power increase from the 2005 S? Seems like only 30HP in a slightly heavier car won't make that much of a difference.

But the suspension-chassis is supposed to be sharper; is the difference with the 986 S that big?

In today's market, if you have a well-sorted 2000 S, you're better off keeping it instead of acquiring an unknown '05 S, at least monetarily. Any differences are at best minimal.

In today's mkt there are great buys on 987Ss. Are there any 05-07 987S in your area that you could test drive? That would be the best way to answer your question. I did notice the extra 40HP in my LE vs my 01S. As always when purchasing a Box, do your homework and make sure the car is good before you buy. Don't be frightened by the unknown. The 987S is a great car.

yes there is a noticeable difference when you are driving it for real (turning the steering wheel). But much like jumping into a Corvette, you eventually get used to it and its not so different anymore.

Perfect advise Perfectlap. Wait a couple years and buy a pre-owned 988 S with the direct fuel injection. The new car is updated quite a bit and even though they are playing up PDK, I still believe in manual transmissions for pure sport fun.
