More System Upgrades

Well I got tired of the subwoofers in the Bose enclosure so I had them replaced with FOCAL Utopia BE 13WS subwoofers.

Check it out...

How's it sound?

Sounds like the car has a subwoofer :D

The Focals are pretty amazing for their size. The woofer is capable of as low as 36hz without distortion.

It sounds as if there is a good 10" sub in the car.

The Bose subs were good for super solid midbass but not low enough(typical Bose). The Focals sounds like a true subwoofer.

At the retail price of $474.99 EACH they better sound good.

Here is the new system diagram

The only two speakers left that I haven't replaced are the two midrange 3" speakers on each side of the Subwoofers. I can't seem to find a speaker with the correct dimensions to replace them with. Luckily they are only fill and sound pretty good.

Sweet looking setup. I used to use the focal drivers when I was building my home speakers, very high quality. What do you use the audiocontrol box for in the system. I just use the a pink noise generator, 1/3 octave RTA and the 13 band equlizer in my head unit to tune the sound of the car.

BTW, I recently replace my class AB JL audio amps 4x75 and 1x300 watts for the Alpine PDX5 and PDX2 class D amps. I like the sound of the alpine amps, and they do not draw as much current as the class AB amps.

Sorry to seal the thread but I was wondering if you guys could help me with an amp issue.

Do you know why my amp goes pop when I turn off the car? I know that it's my amp because when I disconnect it I don't have the issue. When I'm cranking the stereo and pushing the amp I get the pop sound when I turn off the ignition. If I play the radio quiet, which is not that often, I don't get a pop.

Any ideas?

I can't say enough about Focal products. You DEFINITELY get what you pay for.

The audiocontrol box is my DSP. I use it to tune every aspect of my system. My head unit / Navi is set to use no filters or built in crossovers and the EQ is completely set flat. I didn't like the restrictions of the head unit. If you changed one requency slightly it would automatically try and match the next setting with it. The audioctrol DSP gives me 100% control of everything. It's a really great product.

As far as the PDX line of amps. I haven't found any other brand / line of products that give you as much as the Alpine PDX. The amps are somewhat costly but its worth the price.
