Ugly tapping noise
Started the Box MY99 this morning and I could hear a faint tapping noise, I got out to inspect and it was not any more clear outside the car. I got back in and the temp gauge was flashing hot. I immediately shut it off. I did not get a chance to look under the car as I had to get to work. Could it be every Boxster owners nightmare? this SUCKS.

It's possible that the two issues are unrelated. The tapping sound is slightly normal... When I hear mine tapping I change the oil and it goes away. The high temp guage would have me more worried.
Search this site on temperature Good luck, -Steve |
Broken water pump impeller? Hope so. Anti freeze would boil and leak out somewhere. If no oil mixed in spill, probably a simple w/pump replace. Been there couple of times, in Boxster and Volvo.

I thought a flashing temp light meant low coolant level?
Check coolant level. And check under your carpet in the rear trunk for coolant. |
Flashing temp light means HOT. Coolant level could be fine. Radiators need unobstructed ventilation and coolant flow, thermostat OK? belt turning w/pump, engine cooling fans operating. etc...

Thanks for the help
Thanks to all that replied to my message about the temp gauge flashing. The coolant was at the min. mark, so I added some distilled water and it did not go on upon starting. The tapping noise I am contributing that to the fact that it has been so cold in the morning that the oil had not had a chance to circulate. Thats what makes the forums great, thanks again!

Cool, try changing the oil with 0W40 and see if that makes the ticking go away...

Tapping noise
Took my box at the dealer yesterday for a faint tapping noise very audible from the right side air vent. Tech said it was the fuel injectors, and its normal. I will bring it back thursday for a close inspection before my warranty runs out. Any of you guys experience this, please post your response.
