Help me get a C4S -- Buy MY Boxster!

I guess that means it's officially for sale.
What do you guys think of that price?
(I know it seems kinda high in today's market, but my motivation to sell is not crucial.)

Also, I've decided that I'd really like to have an '02-'04 Carrera 4S (yes, even over a Cayman).

I LOVE the carrera front end. Those are the best looking headlights Porsche has ever made.

Jeph -- you probably already know that your asking price is on the high end of what your likely to get.

Give some thought to selling the car seperate from some of the goodies. For example:
- the hardtop WILL get $1200 (or more)
- If you still have the original headlights, put them back in. The litronics will fetch decent money too.

That will let you lower your asking price by $2000, bringing it into a better range.

Either way, good luck in your sale. Goes without saying that its not a great time to be selling a car. Having the maintenance history and new tires are a huge plus.

I agree about the hardtop. However, he cannot simply put the non-Litronic lamp assemblies back in, since they are different for the Carerra. Also, if I remember correctly, Jeph did the Carerra conversion after a minor fender bender, so he wouldn't have those components anyway.

Its a sharp car, but yes, you are going to have to wait for the exact right buyer, or lower your price a bit more than likely.

Good luck, if you find someone who enjoys the unique look you created the price isn't terrible, the mileage is a bit high but not awful.

Less than 6000 a year strikes me as lower than average.

Yeah, I decided not to mention the fender bender... I know most car ads do, but I wanted to try something different.

I've dropped the price... $16,999
I still predict no takers, but like I said, my motivation to sell is half-hearted. And as long as I DON'T have a C4S, I'm living debt free (Except those dang school loans)!

the seat rip and the rear window crack need to not be there to attract the right price. This is only a 2.7, and, while reasonably well optioned, has around 50k miles and is being sold as winter sets in. The hardtop adds a $1k in many markets, not so much in the south. The mods appeal to a particular buyer, not everyone and not at adding to the price.

In this tough market, you have to remove all reasons why the potential buyer would say no or not at that price. Or lower the price so their repairs are priced in.

$17K is on the high side for a 2000 with less than 50K miles, a hard top, 18" wheels, Litronics, and Carrera front end?

I don't know if you've taken a look at the Boxster/Carrera market but sure the prices have bottomed, but good luck finding an enthusiast owned model. Most of what I have seen looks well worn with the mileage to prove it or if its garage queen material the owner is just sitting on it, no point in selling unless he needs the caysh.

Any less than $17K and I'll have to buy me a second 986 strictly for autocross/track duty. :D

Nope! We're not turning my post into the not-Jim debate! Don't worry if it's him or not! Let's focus on selling my car...

If any one asks about accidents, I will most definitely tell them (which is a pretty common question from buyers). If anyone asks about the rims, I will also tell them. I'm an honest individual and value my integrity. But maybe I should remove the Carrera Lights label... I can see how that's misleading. Besides, it's obvious from the pictures what (simulated) wheels I have and only enthusiasts even know what "Carrera Lights" means.

Jeph, you have no reason to defend your integrity on this Forum. You have a great car and an even better reputation here on the board. :)

Jeph, you will find a lot of very ignorant people interested in your car and they won't know genuine Carrera lights from our aftermarkets unless you inform them of it.

Frankly, I don't think it's a deal-killer because they're incredibly well made and light (coming from someone who owns them as well.) Adding that they're Italian made aftermarket rims that weigh X pounds compared to factory turbo twists may actually help the sale of the car.

Randall, I love the replicas -even better than the authentics. Know why? Because the rears are a) wider and b) NOT concave -rather more flush with the side of the car. You'll notice it next time you see authentic rims. Oh, and c) cheaper.

well its up to the buyer to ask what on the car is factory or isn't. The thing about these cars is that most become enthusiasts once they buy the car. A guy who never thought about an aftermarket wheel or ever bought an expensive wax changes a great deal of his behavior when he pulls the p-car trigger. I can assure you that most will not be too happy to know that everything on the car didn't come from factory, until of course he reads how much even the replica wheels are going for these days. I don't think you can buy replicas for what I paid for my factory Carreras. Although I got a screaming good deal. Better to give full disclosure--when asked--before the sale.

p.s.
I want a C4 as well, they make great grocery getters. I want red with tan leather. I just dont have the room or drive enough to justify a second car. But if the prices keep falling like this it will be too hard to pass up. i test drove one last summer 07 and teh price had fallen probably 15K in that time. I'll just store the Boxster off-site during winter. :cheers:

That Boxster looks sweet! Tasteful mods and lots of TLC. It should sell at that price to a buyer who knows what they are getting. Sports car buyers are on the endangered species list right now. Don't forget to mention you can get 30 mpg highway in your car if you keep a soft right foot. Good luck!

Beautiful car!!!!! I love the looks of the front end!!!!! That being said it is refreshing to see your intentions of being forthright with potential buyers, carfaxes, autochecks and informed buyers would quickly surmise the real reasons for the friendly face :cheers: . I've been in industrial sales for ~ 25 years, I / we (our company) rely on repeat sales, if you're full of it you're found out early on. Karma is out there.................

BTW....I have the same aspirations.....C4S except in the 997 version, too many tuitions calling for now. Good luck on the sale.
