What's your spoiler say?
Hey fellas,
I've seen the vinyl stickers on some of the retractable spoilers such as "Boxster," "986", etc.. help me get creative here! I want to put one on there that is a little bit humorous/philosophical/not ordinary. ("see ya!", "don't tailgate", "i brake check") This car full of blondes drove past me today and i was thinkin, "Blondes Welcome" lol anybody? i'll put someone's website on there for a small fee :) or i can support the board if they had vinyls available for it :) what are ya'lls ideas? |
Mine says, "Porsche."
It's not very creative, but it looks nice, and I like it. I would avoid anything offensive, and stick with something classic like, "Speedster, Spyder, Boxster, 986, Porsche," but I have seen some people who do thinks like, "Ye'haa!" It's up to you, it's your car. |
vinyl name/logo for the independent mechanic I use "Zotz"
|
Mine says "You have just been passed by a girl". This might be a good time to mention that my drives mine.
I just make sure that when I pass people that I do it so fast they don't get a chance to read it, I am one ugly girl |
Mine also says PORSCHE in the correct font in white 4 inch letters. I too was trying to think of something more creative, but after giving it a long thought I stayed with Porsche. I do have a vinyl cutter and do some graphics on the side if you need something cut PM me.

I haven't put a sticker on my spoiler - but was also thinking of putting something there. Maybe a nice Porsche crest sticker? Or the POrsche logo in the right font? my car is totally badge deleted on teh back..it was like that when I bought it - but I was thinking of putting the Boxster logo back, or maybe doing the 986 numbering... |
I removed "Boxster S" from the rear deck lid (looked cheap) and now the car has a nice, big smooth ass! I went to the dealer and bought a new plastic Boxster S logo because I destroyed the one I took off and stuck it on the spoiler. That way, people know what just blew by them. And yes, it does clear when deploying and retracting the spoiler.

Now Quickurt, that Japanese bit in your sig - that's totally out there. :) Even since you have added an explanation, I'm still, you know, like duh uh? As to my .02 for a spoiler message, having nothing is in keeping with the understated design, function, and sophistication of the OEM spoiler. But I am a Less is More person. :) |
I've seen a board member here with "Kills Bugs Fast." Thought it was pretty cool.
I have a plain silver PORSCHE decal on mine. http://www.autotrend.com/pic/9536.jpg |
MACH SCHNELL = "Go Faster!" in German
|
ahh i love that!
i also love the "bye" one! (im mostly german) Hey Mark, thanks for the offer! when/if i decide what to put ill be contacting you! haha, here's one that would be fitting for me: "Late for work" maybe the cops would be more lenient? lol also because of my age, i get a lot of "ah is that your dad's?"... so a "yes it's mine" sticker would be funny too! |
This bumper sticker cracked me up too:

Someone here, I think DJ has
Auf Wiedersehen on his! |
Nothing... that is, it doesn't say Nothing... it doesn't say anything
|
I find the spoiler so ugly when raised that the last thing I want to do is call attention to it with a message.

not to take this thread off topic - but is there a way to bypass the spoiler function and just stop it from going up? does it REALLY help at freeway speeds? i mean, if i were to shut it off = would I really notice any difference i handling? i'm no engineer - but it just doens't look like it does a whle lot...does it..or is it more of a gimmick.. to get somewhat back on topic - while I do agree that the spoiler looks a bit weird - i think with the right logo/sticker/emblem on the back of it - done nicely...it adds to the look and would make the car look better. A great big PORSCHE sticker would look cool. no ne has posted a pic of it, but I found a pic elsewhere like that..it looked nice...the lettering was almost as big as the "MACH SCHNELL" sticker linked above... how about making the spoiler retractable ONLY if you want it up and then put something on their like "KISS MY A$$" and then when somenoe is tailgating you you could hit that button and stick it up so they coudl read your "message". a slightly upscale way to flip the bird! :) okay - i wouldn't really do that...but it would be funny.. what about "NO SUBSTITUTE" on the spoiler?!?! I think if I were going to put a sticker there - I would do that. get it done in porsche lettering if possible - large stickers to fill up the whole thing. "NO SUBSTITUTE" I think most people have seen enough Porsche advertising/commercials to get that one - and it's true! |

If I were to get a shop to make the sticker, do you guys know what's the curvature for aligning fonts? Thanks. |
you can manually raise/lower the spoiler if you wanted to.
kinda a hassle reaching by the floor though... was thinking bout those Cadillac commercials that say "When you turn your car on does it return the favor?"... well the answer is yes lol couldn't fit all that on there though... "rice burner" "PORSH-uh" |

I was looking for "987s rule", but reign of 987 was as close as I could find. After saying it out loud a few times I liked it. It is not as hard as it looks because "shichi" is actually pronounced "shtee". The "hoochi ku" was just "too cool" Since Mazda is my second largest customer, learning the language is a respect thing for my Japanese engineer friends and I don't want to insult them owning a Porsche. On my rear window is die cut lettering which says, in proper mazda font, "My other car is a Mazda" |
Why not convert one of those scrolling message boards, so you could say all of the above, when the mood suits you.

Even though I prefer no words on my spoiler, there are some GREAT ideas here. My faves:
|
lustig ;)
that'd be cool |
I occasionally think about putting:
"Advertise your company here" But for the guy who's putting the tow-ball on his, perhaps: "If you can Read this... My trailer's gone" But my fave would be: "Mr BMW, just F**K off" In response to the many BMW drivers who don't know what a Boxster S can do, and tail-gate me until I floor it. |

Germans are not known for their sense of humor |
Sure they have a sense of humor! It's like when they place the oil filter in the 944 in an impossible to reach place where it will spill the most oil over the most components.
It's just a sick twisted sense of humor. Thats why I like them so much! |
when i bought my boxster used.. there was a venyl on the spoiler saying simply: PORSCHE.. :)
look pretty neet :) a friend one mine (with a boxster) was all excited when i passed him and he saw my spoiler going up ;) |
out of curiosity - what woudl look better?
on my ocean blue boxster - do I put white letters that just say "PORSCHE" or what about using the same porsche font but have it say "NO SUBSTITUTE". I found a place online that will do custom vinyl stickers, in whatever size you want, and they have the Porsche font available. not the cursive type font on teh badging...but the more blocky type font like on a license plate frame, or on teh windhsield banners.. also - on an ocean blue car, i wonder if white woudl be too much contrast/too different. getting the print in a dark blue to match my cars exterior might look cool.. very subtle..although it would be harder to read. this place even has reflective vinyl in various colors..so at night, if you were on teh freeway, the stuff would reflect back...might look kind of cool... this is one place i found. there are plenty more like them online.. http://www.fastdecals.com/porsche_stickers.htm |
My car is ocean blue, I went with the red. It goes well with the taillights. You can photoshop this picture if you want to try different colors.
|
Mine is mute! Since I have the aero kit 1 I have had my spoiler unplugged since before I purchased the car. It was hooked up for 2 days after I got it back from the paint shop when I did the new rear euro 986 bumper with no bumperetts. I found it to look so bad it has not been pluged in since. I wonder if I can remove the working parts and loose some weight????

>After saying it out loud a few times I liked it. It is not as hard as it looks
>because "shichi" is actually pronounced "shtee". So you want your spoiler sticker to say "Shtee 986"? The way I pronounce that it really doesn't sound too good! :p >Why not convert one of those scrolling message boards, so you could >say all of the above, when the mood suits you. Illegal... at least in California. Scrolling message boards are specifically called out in California code as illegal. I imagine it's the same in most other states. Kirk |
rick3000-
I kind of like the red. I agree, it ties in with the red in the tails... I've seen it in white and yellow which I don't think woudl look right on an ocean blue car. i don't know how to use PS, so I can't change the color. anyone have the ability to use Rick's photo and PS the letters so they appear the same color as the car itself? it might look nice, and it may be so dark that there's not enough contrast to really read the letters at all... I kind of like that idea though - in that I think my car's color scheme is conservative and understated - it's ocean blue, and black. interior is all black. wheel crests are black. having a bright red logo pop up at the back might be "too much"...but if the logo were color keyed to the car - it would be visible..but not too loud. it would be a bit more subtle. anyone here good with PS that can do that?? thanks! |

"It has historically been more common in Northern Germany, though it has gained country-wide acceptance and also commonly used in Bavaria, Austria, Trentino-Alto Adige in Italy and Switzerland. However, in Southern Germany it is more common for the informal farewell ciao or adieu to be used. The farewell Auf Wiedersehen is considered appropriate in more formal settings." http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/tsch%C3%BCss Auf Wiedersehen is wayyy toooo longgg to fit. Sorry I have to revisit this thread now that the weather is warmer I want to stick something on it. |
Mach Schnell
I put "Mach Schnell" on my spoiler. I know the dictionary translation is "Make Quick". But, having lived in Germany for ten years I can assure you that to a German it is the equivalent of the American "Hurry Up!"

I am still thinking the "Porsche". The only ID right now is the Boxster on the back end and emblem on the nose.... an it will help people know what just passed them. |
My car already had this when I bought it.
