Just bought a 2001 Boxster S for $27.5K...
Black/black, 6 speed, 26K miles....perfect! It is my first Porsche brand purchase. In the past, I have owned a 99 Miata and a 2000 Merc SLK230.....can't wait until Spring!!http://photos2.ebizautos.com/608/571610_47.jpg

Nice whip you have there. Take care if it and it will take car of you. Do you plan on doing anything to it?
|
Very nice...
|
wow, prices for an S have gone down. Nice find.
BTW: how many miles are on it? |
Good buy. I paid $30.5k last May for my 2001 non-S Boxster..
|
Sweet car. I am sure you will enjoy it! Mine was one of the best purchases I have ever made. It is my nearly everyday ride and I love every minute I am in it - even the rush hour commute. I will say that prices HAVE come down. Last march I paid 31K for my 2000 S with 27k miles.
|
The car has 26K miles....and still has 3 months of factory warranty left ...
|
Mine had one week of warranty left, but the dealer gave me an additional 30 days. Other than an oblivious lady in a pickup backing into me (new hood and front bumper), I have not had even one hint of a problem with the car.
|
I just can't wait for this snow to go away to drive her. Oh well, at least I can enjoy my snowmobile until then :)
|
I noticed you were from MA, where did you find the car? Private or dealer?
|
I found the car at a dealer in NJ.
|
Geez that's really cheap !!! Half of what I paid mine !!!
|
Sweet car. Best of luck!
|
Super Car !!! Mine is Black also ... terrible to keep clean but so nice and smart . Wish you all the best with your new car and in the Porsche world . JMG

I guess I shouldn't encourage you to get her all road grimed, she looks so good now in her shiny black dress . |
I paid 30,500 for my 2000 S with 10,000 miles. But state tax and all those BS fees were another $1500. But the car really was show room new. just a three inch scratch on left side of the nose. Mine came with the steped up sound package, wind deflector, the owner had stone guard applied to the front of the car and most importantly (for me) a stick shift.
I think for resale value, the S is the way to go if you can swing it. But a 2.7L 6 cylinder Boxer engine is nothing to sneeze at either. By the way, Have you owned a black car before? My advice if you haven't: don't touch the paint with auto store towels. Get the expensive one's that the professionals use. If you have ever been to an auto show I gurantee you those car's have never been touched with anything other than an expensive waffle weave towel. That means don't let the car wash guys dry your car with their drying towels, give them your towels. http://www.autopia-carcare.com/mf-201.html Black cars are washed probably washed 2 or 3X's more often of course the more you touch the paint the more you swirl and scratch it. Click on my //http you can see my black miata that was prepared (frequently) with Klasse and P21S. |
I have an Audi that I drive in the winter....so will NOT be driving my Boxster when it snows. I don't know if it has PSM, how can I tell?
My Audi is black, and I have owned other black cars in the past, so I know what a pain they are to keep clean, but it is definately worth it. I have always used Zaino brother products, with 100% cotton towels from JC Penny. Do people here recommend a different product for the Boxster? |
Klasse all in one and then Sealant.
Great stuff for the Black Box. |
Forgot this, clay bar is a must if there the surface is not mirror smooth. Then proceed with Klasse.
|
the cotton towels I would not recommend, look at this micro magnification of a panel of black paint:
http://www.bettercarcare.com/imageview.php?imageId=41 the side on the right was done with 100% terry cloth towels the side on the left was done with Korean Microfiber towels. The Chinese made towels aren't really made in the authentic microfiber machines, actually they aren't mf at at all. |
Welcome.
I know Sal recommends cottom towels with his Zaino but I don't agree. Get yourself some good microfiber towels. |
I have always had good luck with very old, very soft bath towels.
|
microfiber is the only way.
Get some good towels. The microfiber towels work really well for dusting the interior as well. I recommend getting a set of towels for the exterior and another for the interior. For example, I have blue towels that I only use on the interior, and green that I only use on the exterior. I know know I’m crazy. If you are really nuts like me you will only wipe in the direction perpendicular to the normal viewing angle of that panel. i.e. on the hood and rear deck only wipe front to back (or visa-versa) and on the sides up and down only. Over time the "swirls" will be oriented in that direction, which will essentially hide them. "Its the only way if you want it just right . . " --Willy Wonka I went to a PCA event over the summer where we had a pro detailer come in and give a demonstration on the "proper way." I went home feeling like I was ruining my car every time I washed it. |
I do use microfiber for all waxing and related operations. I don't find them acceptable for drying after a wash.

Cole: Lift the hood and write down all the 3-letter/3-number combinations on the little piece of paper taped on the underside right up front. Put those numbers in a posting - I'll tell you; 'what you got'.
I've been doing option mining for the last 6wks - looking for the right combo/right price. Typically, the non-P dealers DO NOT have a clue what they have...and it simply does not seem to cost five cents more for a car with good options. Hell, I drove 3hrs. to look at an 01 'S', 14,800mi, Seal/Gray interior...BUT?! Navy blue top? I don't like tri-color cars....and luckily, my wife didn't either - whew! (the salesman said the top was dark gray, or I'd have stayed home...) I drove to see it because the dealer didn't know he had about $6k in options on this car. Interestingly, it was traded in at a multi-franchise dealer, was not prep'd (the way I prefer to see them..) and will probably end up at the Manheim auction in Fredricksburg VA next thurs..or week following. This dealer doesn't think they have a market for it. It's in pretty decent shape, but the person did not baby the car as we would. There's a jucy 01 'S' (see a pattern..) with full leather, comfort and touring packs, lights, etc - BUT, the deal killer for me: no PSM, in Southern OH.... Jim |

#1 - It keeps me from sheer panic as I watch a NASCAR wall approach at 105MPH. #2 - I drive in snow. IMO - Unless you buy a high performance car every other year, it is worth shopping carefully for the options you want. |
A-S: I look five+ years forward. I expect virtually every car outside a KIA Rio to have it... and, besides, there's an Off switch?! I can't imagine why you would not want your wife to have it...
You're serious about snow! Having living in Wisconsin, MN and Ontartio, when there was still Winter; I don't miss it much. It was about 70f. in VA Beach today. Jim |
Cole stick with the Zano, it's good stuff. I've heard that NXT stuff is pretty good for covering the micro scratches especially seen by dark colors. I use a 100% lambskin shammy to dry off with.
