Custom wheels...
 

Heh, another mod (sort of) question. Involves the hubcaps. I want to change them, don't really like the ones on my Box right now (the spirals, I prefer rims that point inwards at the middle, and goes out towards the ends).

This would all be fine, but the problem is that I don't want to get rid of the Porsche badges that the rims currently have. If I were to put on new ones, the only Porsche badge remaining would be on the front trunk lid.

The other problem is deciding what to do with the old wheels, I have no idea what to do with them, other then just letting them pick up dirt in the garage...

So the two things I want to know is 1) Are there Porsche wheels available (used is fine) that will look good on the Box, and if not then is there a way to put on Porsche decals on the rim (or the badge).

And 2) what should I do with the old ones after I take them off?

There are plenty of rim options available for your car. For starters, check out tirerack.com. Enter your year, make, and model and start your search for wheels! Plenty of results to be had there. I'm not sure that you can use your Porsche center caps (with the logo) but you might be able to for some.

eBay is also a good solution for what you can do with your old rims when you get your new ones. It's nice to have those offset the cost of your new ones. They'll fetch some decent cash, as they will make a good track set for somebody. I had the exact same rims as you and sold them on eBay... they found a home on a Porsche 968. If you don't want to deal with eBay or shipping rims, try CraigsList.com. It's can be more local -and it's free.

I'll have a look around, ebay is the way to go for my old rims then huh? Will the rims be cheaper if I were to get any other set of rims, not necessarily Porsche branded (or replica) ones?

or if your involved with your local PCA, advertise the old wheels with them. Many DE and Autocross drivers are looking for a second set of factory wheels for race tires.

Before you buy the first set of shiny wheels that catch your eye, be sure to understand offset and how it applies to Boxsters. Do a search here on 'offset' and 'wheels' to bone up on other's experiences. There are plenty of threads of people who buy or want to buy 11" rear wheels and want to know if they'll fit on a Box (they won't). Also plenty of ads on ebay for wheels that say they'll will fit Porsches (but might not necessarily fit a Box unless you want to use insane sized spacers). Porsche wheels are very spendy (please be seated when looking at prices), so you don't want to make an expensive mistake.

Another item that has to be considered is what size wheels do you have (17", 18") and what size do you want to go to?

Lots of questions that need to be answered before getting out the credit card (or taking out a loan - some sets can cost $4K :eek: ).

Heh, had a look around, and the cost really pushed me out of getting some for now. I will be able to afford them, but honestly I'd rather save my funds up just in case the Box needs some maintenance or repairs down the road.

You can pick up a set with good rubber for $1500-$2000 delivered. Not much different than the cost for other cars.

Probably wise. Plus, it gives you something to look forward to next year.

Yeah, I will be working next summer so I can try and get enough for a good set then.
