Oil analysis results. 2 years and >15k between change

Ok, I'll be the first to say it so you guys don't have to, I was probably a dumbass for waiting so long to do an oil change. Thought I'd post up my recent Blackstone Lab oil analysis results though. Mileage between change was 15,466 and it was exactly 3 weeks shy of being 2 years between changes. Mileage at the time of this analysis was 86,866 right before I took a big 2,600 mile roadtrip down to Savannah, up the Gulf coast of Fla and back here to Cincinnati. Just rolled over to 91,000 miles last night. Car has been running great! I'm going to do my next change at a 10k interval and see how things are holding up.

So what you're saying is it's ok to do oil change at 15k? :)

Wear metals look excellent for that long of a run. Would like to see a TBN analysis at this mileage, I would guess it would be very low. My TBN for M10W40 was less than 50% of starting TBN at 8500 miles.

Flashpoint and viscosity are low. Suggest doing a TBN on next run to see how additives are doing. 10k OCI is a good idea IMO.

Also suggest posting this on the used oil analysis section of http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php as you will get tons of educated responses I think.

Your results look pretty good.

But, there are so many variables involved such as driving style, regional fuel quality/formulations, driving conditions (freeway, stop&go, dusty, daily/occasionally driven etc.) and such that I personnally don't consider this a rousing endorsement of a 15k/2 yr. oci, especially if you're storing the car seasonally.

Compared to the risk, an annual oci or <10k mi. still seems a smart way to go.

But, everyone is different, and it's their car and their scheckels, so let your conscience be your guide!

Yeah, I definitely wasn't endorsing going this long. I'm usually pretty good about keeping up with the oil changes but life got busy, I kept putting it off, and the next thing you know 2 years has slipped by. A little of this involved too ->

I'll spring for the TBN next time.
