3.4L swap without swapping DME
Does anyone know what would happen if a Boxster 2.7 was swapped for a 986 3.4L engine and the stock boxster DME was still used?

I think member tholyoak could work something out for you.

If the 3.4 matched the 986's DME (5.2.2 with the same OR 7.2 with the same) ... then the engine would run, rough, but would run.... you would get some noticable power increase, but you would still be running 2.7 timing and etc.... you would need to get the DME flashed by a PST to the 3.4 program

you said the 986 3.4L. do you mean the 996 3.4L, or the 987 3.4L? the 987 motor is a no go with your current DME.

I've actual done it and it runs. I just don't know if I'm getting the full potential because the DME wasn't upgraded. |

Of if I have access to the DME that the 996 engine came from, will it work if I just used that DME in my Box instead? |

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is MAF? and do you think it's actually MAF or because the DME wasn't upgraded? |
PST is the Porsche Scanning tool... all dealers and some Indy shops have them.... you need to run a Boxster DME and get it flashed to a 3.4 engine program. The MAF (mass air flow sensor) will need to match that of the same generation of your engine... the tech that does the re scan can tell you if you have the right one or not...
