Ahhh you guys are wayy off,

Now if someone new shows up with the handle "big ************************ Bastard", then I'm looking for the similarities. Since we are all trading our favorite MN stories, I liked the yarn about winning thousands in Vegas gambling with reckless abandon like he was James Freaking Bond.

You know this occurred to me as well (not that's its a big deal) but I remember how well MN's Boxster looked after he deswirled using an orbital.
When I saw that pic of the red/tan I said "hmm...I never forget a face or Porsche!"

I thought LB was the guy with the 550 with the red tail stripes, because it said lil' bastard on the rear deck.

Although MN's replies were VERY informative on factual basis and his opinions were equally rich. I didn't get either from the nome de puis(sp?).

He was very verbose, and was always quick to post helpful technical information. Just don't confuse posting technical info with knowledge... he was caught several times cut-n-pasting long descriptions as if he wrote them, just to find that he had simply copied them from some website or document. One example that sticks out in my mind was a thread about torque and horsepower. He posted a well-written explanation, but then I did a quick web search and found the web site he had copied it from. IIRC, he claimed to be a writer of some sort, but stealing someone else's writings without giving them credit would be a huge no-no with a writer.

Oh well... google is your friend.

ha I believe one time he said his cut and paste was okay because he actually wrote the information on Wikipedia under a different name...

More important, all visitors to this thread, take a good look at his boxster, that IS the only acceptable boxster configuration possible..anyone who deambers, or paints side vents, or adds a boost gauge, or does any manipulation is a "ricer"..

my favorite was when he told an owner contemplating 19" wheels that they were simply too big, and the car should be left as intended, even though its a facotry option, and that everyone is going to keep going bigger....blah blah....the best ways is standard as intended

I simply stated that his boxster would be standard with 17" wheels but he now has 18"'s....and that he violated his own logic in his post and that upgrading 1" could be done easily and look great...

his reply included a rant telling me to back off and he is entitled to his opinion....what a moron....let my boxster blow up if it means not dealing with good ol MN

....a little nostalgia, he loved the beers

By the way, I’d like to interject something else here. I do so because I suspect LB will take the high ground and, as a result, will not do so on his own behalf.

For starters, while there are similarities in the cars owned by each (in a few cases, a perfect correlation), stating that they owned “the exact same cars” is patently inaccurate. And while the similarities may be enough to create an index of suspicion (need a better choice of words here…hate to make this sound like a criminal investigation), there are more differences than matches. So, for that person who so indignantly claimed “I just HATE liars !”, I just reply with this: If you’re so concerned about veracity, you might start by more closely examining your own posts.

Secondly, to say that LB “slammed” someone’s recommendations regarding places to dine in Charleston is clearly an exaggeration. He simply indicated that at those places you’re likely to see more folks from outside Charleston than from within. Never having been to Charleston myself, I can’t say whether the places listed by LB were themselves “touristy” or not. That is in the realm of honest opinions sometimes differing. Simply put, my take on the matter was that his comments weren’t designed to be hostile or antagonistic, as they were subsequently made out to be. Let's not be so thin-skinned, people!

I make these points because of a belief that they are relevant and in need of mention, REGARDLESS of whether LB and MNBox are the same person or not. Dropping one’s identity and taking on a new one, on a forum such as this one, isn’t exactly unheard of behavior. It’s pretty much harmless as far as I’m concerned, unless the “new” identity starts defending something the “old” identity said, and does so as if he is an unbiased third party. To my knowledge, LB has not done that, nor anything else even arguably unethical. My suspicion is that he won’t. (Especially after this thread! )

As far as 986fourm is concerned, Minnesota is dead. Let him rest in peace. Lil bastard---whoever you are---a belated welcome to the trenches. Don’t disappear on us. The vast majority of all this is in good fun, and I for one value your opinions.

to which point he was obviously hypocritical then as well.....

one time, he climbed up on his soap box and verbally chastised me for posting a wiring diagram of some sort (which I gave credit for). Told me it was ok to post a link to it for someone but wasn't okay to actually post it. Professed to be someone very involved and sensitive to ensuring original authors got credit (which they did). Hmmm.....

Absolutely, for some time I've just gone under the assumption LB was one in the same.... Writing styles and "authoritative" tones are too similar - especially w/ all the professed "factual" and/or "helpful" posts.

In the end..... guess it's really a tribute to Rich for having the 986forum and us for posting on such a great board. It's a testimonial to what a great place this as someone who was so heavily chastised / ridiculed/ whatever.... went to such an extent to create new identity just to be able to post here freely. To that end, thanks Rich!

"Hi Frodo, I respect what you are saying. I don't necessarily agree, though, and agreement is not really important in this case. I think if you knew the whole story, you might have a different opinion.

I may send you a PM that will prove helpful and informative."

Posted by bmussatti.

I would welcome that. (Enlightenment is a good thing.)

I am sort of a 'tweener, having been aboard for a good while but nowhere near as long as some folks. I overlapped with MNBox for 6 months or so. Without going back and reading ALL his posts, I don't recall that many controversial ones other than the now-infamous Water Wetter thread. (There may have been some---my memory is no longer quite as good as you folks in your 20's, 30's and 40's.)

And I won't be going back and systematically reading his posts from before I joined. Not enough hours in the day for that.

But a Cliff's Notes version would be welcome. A brief synopsis (with links, if appropriate) I would read. Maybe I'll change my mind.

Time to end the week on a positive note.

If we had a Hall of Fame, MNBoxster would have a place in it. It's incredible how one individual, no longer a regular poster mind you, can create such an emotional response.

Unless someone has a specific beef w/ Lil Bastard - I suggest we welcome him with "open arms".

Everyone have a great weekend, drive safely. Me I have some wrenching to do.
