Has anyone had this happen?
picture this. your baby is sitting inside your garage all nice and clean. then, a few hours later, while the garage is being fixed, the whole mechanism falls on the car and puts ( got quoted for this) $1100 of damage on the trunk and left rear fender.. :barf:

Wow...that sucks...
and Yep, happened with my previous '77 911 in the garage. Luckily didn't do too much to my car. Who was working on the garage? see if you get them to pay for the damages or at least chip in especially if they didn't tell you to take your cars out. Once again, sorry to hear that happened |
it was a friend of mine.. he offered to do the garage for free but not pay for the damage. After i thought about it, i let is slide because the garage came down so hard he could have really been hurt.. and then whose at fault? But eventually i had it fixed and was only charged 100$ for dents and chips =D.. but it really needs paint to look like before

Thats horrible selfless of you!
I would def. feel awkward if it was a friend of mine, and would most likely have let it slide too. 100 bucks for the dents aint too bad. How much would it cost for the paint? |
You cannot put a value on real friendship, and I am glad for your sake you didn't.
Sorry about the car tho. I worry the garage door opener or exhaust ducting will get mine. The ducting crashed into an empty spot once. Wife then ran over it with her Jeep entering garage. |
Sixter, you had a lucky break man lol..
- if i repaint the fender and trunk it wont mesh with the rest of the paint on the car so for a "good" total repaint of the car ( which i need anyway) it will cost anywhere from 5k to 7k..=[.. but it has to get done sometime or another =\ .. |
try to find a specialist in these type of repair, I found one here in Gatineau, he make magic! for really cheap. It is a good reputable place, every insurance company around here go there. Anyway.. you could be surprise ;)
good luck |
yup
happened to me. sister walked in to get her car out, pushed the buton to open the garage door, door started going up, and just fell (of course on my car). broke the rear hatch, glass, roof, 1/4 panel, and rear bumper. |
Wife was driving our Sienna into the garage, starts in with the nose of the van as the door reaches the top, drive mechanism fails, door falls on the windshield and shatters it. Glad it wasn't the Boxster. She now waits until the door is stopped before entering instead of trying to save 2 seconds.

Not entirely related, but a few years ago my neighbor came home from lunch in his 2 day old CLK430 (I know, not a Porsche but I still felt for the guy), parked in the driveway since he had some contractors using the garage since it was raining. Well, lightning struck the tree (roughly 2 foot diameter) at the edge of the driveway, and it fell right in the middle of the roof. At 200 something miles the car was totaled.
Sometimes you just can't win. Patrick |
I've never heard of that happening before, having a garage door open then malfunction and fall like that. I guess Ive taken it for granted. Sometimes I drive in under the door just as it's open enough to squeeze under it. I'll think twice before clowning around like that again.
