996 bumper and lights on 986
It might be a little expensive, but is it possible to replace the front bumper and headlights of a 986 with those off of a 996 turbo? The later ('03-'04ish) headlights of the 996 are a little different and dip down into the bumper so both the lights and bumper would have to be replaced.
I always was under the impression that the 986 and 996 were pretty much the same car from the windshield forward so I think it should work. Has anyone tried it or has some pics to share? |
It is possible they even sell the parts in a package deal on ebay for around $4000 however you have to get the front side panels replaced to as well as the bumper, the lights, and the light housings.

Talk to screen name "Jeph" on here, he did it. A lot of boxster owners do it, just takes some coin. Even more 996 MK1 owners do it to update the look of their 996's.

Have a look through Excellence magazine. There's a company that always advertises in there selling a turbo-look bumper that fits the 986 without swapping lights or fenders.

I guess I was correct to assume it would cost a few bucks. But Jeph, your Boxster does look mighty fine.
I think I have been paying too much attention to the old biker mantra, "Stock Sucks". |
Jeph, IMHO, your Boxster is one of the sharpest looking I have seen. I wish they'd upgraded the Box with those lights from the factory. Looks like a real beast.

tamarsha, 9eighty6 -I love you guys. Thanks for the compliments! I'm really pleased with the way the car turned out.
Surprising how such a subtle change can make it look dramatically different... or is it Surprising how such a dra$tic change can make it look subtly different? |
