a guy listing his car for 28000 probably wont' sell it for 20000, but you never know. if it's at a dealer - they might go down more if they took it in trade and paid low wholesale and now need to move it. a private seller may own the car outright and need cash bad to make a mortgage payment. who knows.

i'm in no rush. I have my credit union "blank check" sitting on my desk and i'm patient as can be to look for the right color, right car, etc.

i already know what i want. deep blue exterior like ocean blue, black interior, black top. manual. boxster S. 18" wheels. sport suspension. heated seats. litronics. :) i saw one online that was a 2002 i think..30k miles,asking 28k. if he'd sell for 20k i'd jump..but i think some of these private sellers that list at say 28000 are gonna hold solid at 25000 and will hold out a while until they find that right buyer...

out of curiosity - do many of you share my optimism at how desperate some sellers will be? think i canf ind people willing to knock almost 8000 off of a 28000 asking price? or am i in fantasy land?

Nothing annoys me more than when someone comes out, drives the car, talks to me for a while and asks a bunch of questions and then gives me a ridiculous low-ball offer. If you don't want to just piss people off, I'd suggest that you advise the seller of your ceiling before going out to look at the car.

that is frustrating but any buyer who wllingly tells a seller what the most he will pay is perhaps the worlds worst negotiator.

I believe the original S2000 made 240hp with 2 liters for a specific output of 120hp/liter. At some point the displacement was increased but not the HP.

Ahh...yes I forgot about the old 2.0L engine in the S2000. Since they increased the displacemnt( in 04 I think) to 2.2L it no longer has the highest specific output. Also the 1.3L rotory engine in the Rx8 deserves an honorable mention because it truly has the highest specific output of any NA production engine @ around 180hp per liter. Ok, I retract my previous statement of the GT3 having the highest specific output ever, but I do believe it has the highest output of any NA piston driven engine currently in production. If anybody can find a current production vehicle that meets the above criteria and bests 115hp per liter I'd like to see it.

Yeah, but if you go by equivalent power strokes instead of volumetric displacement, the 13b Rotary is a 2.6L engine.

Doesn't the rotary engine weight like 100 lbs or so. I saw one once out of the car and it looked tiny to me.

Yeah, it's extremely small and light. About the same size as an old 1600cc VW engine.

Just be careful if someone is willing to knock that much off the price. I once thought I was getting a killer deal on a Jaguar and turned out getting a car posessed by satan. And yes, I'd had a mechanic look at it too.

It's a little heavier than that, the rotor housings are steel. But it is pretty light and small. The simplicity is the real beauty of the rotary. Think about everything spinning, orbiting and sliding in a piston engine. The rotary has just 3 rotating parts.

Lets not forget that the GT3 motor uses the "old school" split crankcase design (from the air cooled days, very similar to a recip aviation motor) which has been proven since the 962 days. The GT3 motor has nothing in common (other than displacement and being water cooled) with the M96 motor in the other cars.
