986 torn transaxle boot

Has anyone had a torn transaxle boot and done the replacement?

Getting ready to walk out of the house to go to dinner, but the short answer is "Yes". Do a search for "CV boot replacement" or something like that, and you'll get some hits, including my write-up of how mine went. PM me with any questions you might have.

Good luck!

Both my inboard boots were torn on an 00 Box S with 31K miles. Hardest part of the repair was whipping out the credit card to pay the independent shop that did the repairs... was about $400 or so. I actually didn't mind because I currently don't have time to spend on my back under the car in the driveway. Don't get me wrong, I do my own repairs but that was not something I wanted to tackle.

There's a thread on doing it the right way here: http://986forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4961

I took the lazy way out and used split boots. I did one and only later inspected the others and found the other three were also split so I did them as well. The only problem I had was that the best match for boot size I could find was too big and I had take up the gap with silicone tape.
