You are right, I didn't buy the forum to promote "bashing" of any car. As I have said before, the Boxster is a really wonderful car (IMHO) and a delight to drive and look at.
Aside from the IMS and RMS issue, I believe the Box is about as reliable as any other quality German marque. They have their issues, but not outside the range of what they are. Facing facts, I don't see ANY German car maker matching the Japanese on the whole bulletproof thing. At the same time, I don't think it is bashing to point out design flaws that I believe the company should have addressed years back. I like to cite the case of my neighbor, whose 04 Box with 12K had the IMS meldown while stopped at a light. Believe me, this woman was NOT banging the redline on this car. This of course proves nothing. One case is one case. But, there are many more that are reported here and my heart goes out to these folks. All I am saying is, the Boxster drivetrain needs to be beefed up. When repair costs are so bloody high, the stakes are pretty important, I think. Again, I love the Box and I do wish they would just get these two issues sorted out. Thanks for the input. |
Good weekend with the boxcar
Organized a club event with a nice drive last Sunday. A GT3, Carrera with some mods a Carrera Cabriolet, a 924, another boxster and a 911SC made the spirited trip up route 97 from Port Jervis to Callicoon. My 2.7 Tip kept up with the best of them especially on the twistys. No engine failure, plenty of power and handling was outrageous. The car is fine to look at and fine to drive. 40k on it and it is wonderful. Now how is that for some positive input?
To hijack a bit more, Wed. night car show at Bear Mtn. NY has now been going on for a few weeks. One of these nights maybe some of us should meet there? AKL |
I think the comment somebody made that people who are experiencing problems are more likely to write is probably true. And I realize that anecedotal information is no basis for broad conclusions. All that said,
I've had my Boxster for over a year now, put 11,000 miles on it and have had zero (that's zip, nil, nada) in the way of problems. I had a PPI and just had the 30K service and nothing wrong showed up. So I'm doin' the Happy Dance. |

It seems like every single 2 seat roadster has no storage space at all and the boxster literally doubles most of them in cubic feet of space. I can fit a massive full/oversized suitcase in the front truck, a large load of groceries in the back, golf clubs, muliple laptops in the back, etc. I dont get how other companies can't make a roadster practical for hauling crap around. |

JCL12,
Storage? Porsche gets it for not using an upright four banger with a transverse transmission or a front mount upright four banger with a rear axle . Their mid mounted horizontally opposed flat six with a transaxle is so shallow that they can utilize the extra space above them for trunk and top storage. The drive-train is no taller than the top of your rear tires. |

Oh my! I take a bag about that size with me every single day I work. It fits perfectly in my back trunk. Not that I ever considered getting a solstice, but still, wow. That sucks! |
