i got this for the wife, do you pay extra in the states for a private plate? this cost me $500 in the UK, now i own the plate i can sell it for more if i want. Some plates can fetch $500,000 and up!!! my plate on my 944 reads JON 944 W and is worth maybe $3000 (as much as the car :D )

We do pay more for personal plates, but regardless of what name plate you pick (as long as it is not already taken), it costs one fixed nominal price. Much less than what you guys pay for a personal plate. Also, we do not sell our plates later on...we just turn them in.

plates with a name on fetch good money ie JON so i got JON my name , 944 the car and W is my last initial, we don't have different states here so every plate is different, also you can't make up plates ie HAPPY, there are strict number systems so so get HAPPY you would need to do this H4PPY H=year 4=random number from 1-999, and the PY at the end is where the car was first registered, (there are 3 types of number systems)

so to get a good plate you have to be creative or VERY VERY rich!!! I could have bought JW 1 for $15,000 20 years ago, ( did'nt have the money) last time it was sold a few years ago i think it fetched $600,000

MB 1 is owned by Max Bygraves (an old time english entertainer) MERCEDES BENZ offered him $2,000,000 for it 15 years ago and he refused!!!

the boxster plate SHOULD read M8 OXW i have illegally spaced it to M 8OX W, a police officer can make me change it back and also fine me for it so i keep a proper set of plates made up in the trunk.
