Thinking of buying a Boxster
 

Budget is 13,000-15,000...I do all my own mechanical work. Probably trying for a 1998 or 1999. Is one year better than another?

i would get a 2000 with the 2.7 if you could find one in your budget.

Don't get in a hurry. There are some good cars out there and get the best one you can afford.

Buy one that you can purchase a drivetrain warranty on.

Yup I have read these and as much as I can find. Also picked up a Boxster shop manual the other day.

I just got a '99 Boxster with 46k miles for below $16k. You can do it. Don't buy the first you look at. Finding one with maintenance records is tough. Do the PPI, and you should be good.

Put the cash down on the newest one you can make the payments on with Porsche Certification. You'll end up with a much better car and will probably spend less over the term of the financing/warranty. (notice how I linked those terms?)
The only way I would do it another way is if you plan on doing a pile of mods and can't live with a normal, reliable, fun roadster.............
Just buying parts to do your own work on something older that's going to need more work, adds up quickly when they have those little Porsche part numer tags stuck on them. :D

edit - part numer, does anyone know what a part numer is? Damned bear paw fingers! :o
