Annual Expenses

Im trying to figure annual expenses for a 97 boxster for an excell to find out how much of my dough i need to plan on spending. heres what im thinking, but this is rough estimates:
Maintenance: $1900
Insurance: $1500 (16yrs with clean record, multi-car & good grades)
Fuel: $700 ($3.50/gal, 4000 miles, 20 mpg)
Taxes / Fees: $1400 (sales tax, registration, etc.)

so approx total annual expenses come to about $5500...

do you think this is accurate? is there any expenses im leaving out?

That looks about right on average, but it all depends.

Just consider that the maintence can be a lot less if you DIY or a lot more if you have a RMS failure. Also your gas depends on the driving, if your doing 4k miles a year and it is all city your going to get about 16-18mph if it is all freeway your going to get 25MPH+.

I'm only partially joking when I say this: mods! Unless you file that under maintenance, you'll be amazed how easy it is to spend money here and there on de-ambering and car cleaning items.

I'd beef up the gas price. I'm not certain that premium will remain $3.50 for a year.

It depends on how much and how you drive. I go through almost two sets of rear tires a year (10-15K miles/yr). If you use some of the better tires for our cars, like the PS2's, that can take a big chunk out of your annual maintenance budget.

I've never spent anywhere near that much on maintenance. Of course I've not had a high mileage service.

Just had 4 yr/40k service for $1100 and change which included rear tires at about $550 (TireRack had about same cost). The 2yr/30k was about $486.

And I did my own oil/filter change at 1 & 3 year marks for about $75.

I know older cars need more maintenance and it is more likely they'll have a failure that requires corrective vs scheduled maint. So if you are budgeting for worse case - good idea. If the PPT presentation is for your spousal unit, I'd lower it. :)

As Jeph said, you might have a line item for upgrades/mods if you consider your Box a hobby. Most of us have been bitten by that bug to varying degrees.
