CARBON FIBRE PRODUCTS! whats HOT and whats NOT
i'm thinking of getting a little carbon fibre eye candy but what do you go for? are the genuine carbon parts worth the money or do the "shell system" (STICK ON!) parts give you a great effect for little money? Having not seen the stick on stuff up close, can you tell? does it look a little cheap and tacky? or do REAL carbon parts look so good that cheaper alternatives just can't match up to it?

Jonnycool,
While at the SEMA show last October, I was introduced to a stick-on real carbon fiber sheet. I tested the sheet on a garbage can and sprayed it with multiple coasts of Krylon Clear Coat. While it was real carbon fiber, I couldn't get the smooth glossy look you get with purchased carbon fiber parts. A friend told me to try and coat it with an epoxy type of liquid, but I haven't tried. Take a look at http://www.maxspeed-motorsports.com/. I have bought from them and their service and prices are very good. Good Luck |
exterior parts can sometimes be quite cost effective as you don't have to pay a spray shop to match the colour to your car, plus if you want to resell the part in the future it will suit ANY car not just the colour of your car

I have a good amount of OE CF in my interior. I can easily see the difference in OE CF and aftermarket CF. I don't think the aftermarket stuff looks bad, just different.

ddb - Please stop showing pictures of your car. Everytime I see it, I want to change something on mine!
Johnnycool, Before opting for one of those stick on deals (which I think look tacky) check into hydrographics, also known as water transfer printing. It used to be a rare process, but now, lots of companies are doing it. Check out the results... http://www.hydrographicsinc.com/hgi/...10_650x489.jpg |
