help! loud rattle in front of engine ...

Im hearing a loud rattle from the front of the engine compartment... i have the cover off and can't diagnose. Sound seems to get softer as u apply gas. help!

Hi,

Well, since you don't know what it is, I'd avoid running the engine excessively until you isolate it, that's just a good practice.

To try and isolate it, take a length of heater hose (hold one end to your ear), or by a Mechanic's Stethoscope and carefully place it near various parts of the engine and components, this will help you to determine where it's from.

My suspicion is that it's a bearing, especially as it quiets as the Revs raise. Check the Alternator, Waterpump, Compressor, Oil Pump. But, do this very CAREFULLY - do not wear any loose clothing, watch, jewelry incl. neck chain(s). Hope this helps...

Red face problem solved...

top pulley ( not sure which ) with three torx screws.... one was loose... a quick fix... to an annoying problem. relief!
