Lugnut key
I recently bought a 2001 Boxster S. I can't take the wheels of since I don't have the key. I went to a local Porsche dealer and he said I would have to buy a new set for $70.00. I don't understand this. I was under the impression that I would only need some kind of key to get the lugs off. Please Help!

You need this special socket to remove the locking wheel bolts. Search the car. Including the tool kit, spare tire cover, door pockets. The only times we have not been able to find it is on a used car, or a car that had a tire replacement.
There are about 30 different sockets. If you give up then your dealer should have a kit of all the sockets. By tiral and error they try them all until one fits. Then they know the part number for a replacement socket. Or, do what I finally did. I removed the locking wheel bolt from each wheel and replaced them with the standard wheel bolt. The standard bolts are about $5 each. So it sounds like your dealer wants to sell you a socket and 4 new locking bolts which come in a kit. |
Are you *sure* the key's not in the spare tire cover/toolkit? I missed mine the first two times I looked, and I finally found it hanging out in there :)
