dash clock knob
where can i find a new clock knob for the dash (mine broke). please advice.
thanks |
The part is PN#996.641.911.00 or .01 (one is the clock, the other the instrument dimmer/trip odo).
A dealer will likely need to order it for you - inexpensive. |

Thank you, I ordered online for $8.95. |
On your year it is usually the plastic stem for the knob that breaks, when you hit it with something, like a cleaning cloth. The knob does not break.

Pretty easy really. Once you have the cluster out of the car, pull the clips off of each end, pop the front cover off, then take out the screws on the back of the cluster. The back will come off fairly easily (slides straight up). You will need to have the cluster face down and you need to be careful not to move the needles on the gauges. The broken pin comes out easily and the new pin goes in the same way the broken pin came out. Slide the rear cover back in place (the openings for the harness plugs can sometimes fit really snug into the openings). Once it's fully seated, put the screws back in, flip the cluster over and reinstall the front cover (just snaps into place) and reinstall the clips on the ends.
You do have to hold your tongue just right when pulling the cluster apart and putting it back together. :p |
Porsche does not sell replacement stems, only the knobs.

I do have to admit that all of the stems I've installed came from other clusters. If your stem is broken, I'd try to find a cheap cluster on eBay that has a good stem in it. Or, you could just upgrade to the Carrera cluster.

Picture test.[/Q you were right, the plastic stem is broken. How do I replace it? |
See my first post for how to replace the shaft.
The knobs are super easy as they just press on.....gently. |

Thank-you TOOLPANTS
I guess a ad on the site would help people find the cluster shafts?? I find myself just reading the latest posts in the general discussions and not using the search engine to find what i'm looking for on the site. |
