In dash CD player problem...

Hey Folks,

I was listening to my radio earlier this evening while working in the garage (re: changing out my spark plugs) and decided to put in a cd. Now the cd won't come out, it will not play, none of the buttons work, it doesn't turn off, and the display just says that it's playing track 01. I have a trickle charger on so that it doesn't kill the battery.

I've been searching forums all night to figure it out. What the heck happened??

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Classic symptoms of a dirty or misaligned Face Plate on the Head Unit.

Remove the Face Plate and with a cotton swab and some alcohol, clean all the brass contacts on both the Face Plate and Head Unit. Then, carefully re-install the Face Plate so all the contacts are aligned properly.

All the control functions occur in the Face Plate. If the contacts are dirty or misaligned, these cannot be communicated to the Head Unit and/or CD Player.

Hey LB,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I tried cleaning the contact points...etc... this morning and still nothing happened.

In any case, when I disconnected the negative lead of the battery for a few minutes and reattached it, put my radio code in, everything went back to normal.

Thanks again!

Garage
I'm glad to know there is any easy fix for this. My car did the same thing a while ago, but my warranty replaced the radio free of charge, so I didn't argue with them.

I hear ya rick! But that's cool that they replaced it for you!

I don't know what I would do without this forum and others like it...and most importantly, what would I do without my Bentley Manual!
