What brand of gas do you use?
 

Years back, in 2004 when I bought my Boxster, I experienced fluctuation on my tachometer when I got gas at Costco (still 91 grade). My service advisor suggested Chevron 91 (all that is available in Cali) and I was wondering what brand of gas do other Porsche owners use? My car runs great with Chevron 91 but I was curious about what other Porsche owners run :)

Shell super/premium...

Chevron or Texaco 93, both of which contain Techron.

Normally Shell, but sometimes Chevron. We have a limited number of stations in my rural location, so its slim pickings.

I've been using Amoco/BP premium in my Porsches since 74 with no issues.

Don't know of the particular brand but it's always 93 octane. I was wondering if a lower octane rating would make a big difference, considering gas prices these days..

Cheveron 92 Octane in Washington State.

chevron, or 76, its a toss up.

NEVER shell. it made my jeep unhappy, hurt my old scirocco, and i think a buddy put it in my truck recently, when he borrowed it, and 1/2 way though the tank, I knew it wasn't chevron, cause the mileage sucked.

Amoco/BP or Sunoco, usually 93 (occasionally 94).

raceway...runs fine with it....

I use Shell V-Power 93 Octane here in New York. When I lived in CA it was Chevron or Shell in that preference order. But in California the max Octane was only 91 if my memory is right.

You Jersey and PA guys have it made with your gas prices. We are on average about 20 cents per gallon more in New York but in California those guys were paying $4.35/gal even last month!

i put whatever the gas station i see...never really noticed any diff in gas.

I'm pretty much with you here, although I try to avoid complete no name stations when there's a name brand station nearby. I figure there's more turnover in inventory w/ the name brand station. Otherwise, it's more about price and convenience for me.

Chevron, Sunoco then Shell, in that order preference.

One thing I always figure is that it may not be the brand of gas, but maybe the station itself that might affect my perceptions of the gas I'm getting. If the business looks like its been in the same location for a long time, like 20 years plus or so, I may steer clear of it because I worry that the underground tanks might be old and have more contaminates that a newer station might.

No science behind this, its just my opinion. I have a newer Chevron station near my office and I'll use that one for the majority of my fill ups. Outside my immediate area, then its whatever I can find.

the cheapest 87 oct gas I can find. It likes 87 much better than that expensive 93 stuff :D

I'm a Sunoco 93/94 octane kind of guy unless I'm on some sort of long trip. Then it's whatevers clever ...

Anyone try 100 octane and notice a difference? I know it's available at my local Delta Sonic ... but at $5+/gal I'm not quite that interested.

Lower octane?
 

OK Adam - how are figuring your lower octane makes your car happier? That is flying the face of what Porsche says to do of course, which I'm sure you know. The engine will compensate to a degree for lower octane but that limit is around 96 octane. Are you checking your spark plugs, studying your emissions on a hydrocarbon reader...? Obviously we'd all like to run lower octane and save some money, but if that puppy is pinging it means significant damage to the engine is happening. One of the easiest ways to begin such a process is to look at your plugs running premium and see if they are wet and carbonized.

I go to any gas station thats convenient :)
gas is become so expensive i remember a few yrs ago i was able to fill up a tank of gas for 20 bucks...now not so much...hah oh well i guess we dont have it as bad as the guys in Europe
