Instructions for mounting hardtop carrier on the wall
I bought a hardtop carrier premounted on the cart for my wheels and want to remove it and mount the hardtop on a wall. I believe I have all the hardware still but I never got any instructions on how to mount the hardware. My local dealer doesn't seem to have anything they can find, which is rather irritating. I can't believe Porsche doesn't have instructions available somewhere. I appreciate any help you can give me. If needed, I'll post pics of the stuff I have. I just want to put this together right and having the instruction before I do it....well, it may be contrary to how I do a lot of things  but it just makes good sense!
This is what I have now: http://industryfigure.com/berkeley/P...opCarrier1.jpg I would like to get to this: http://static.zoovy.com/img/beechmon..._cover_911.jpg |

The Porsche instruction were useless for my wall mount. And I have no experience with the rack you have.
It looks like you should just unbolt the I-shaped part (wider horizontal up) of the rack from the roller. The wide member (that the rear of the top fits into) is bolted to the wall using rubber lined radiator-type clamps with a lag screw that goes into the wall. Make very sure you hit studs with both lag screws. No idea what the short pole is for cuz my rack only has the two horizontals joined by the vertical. Clear as mud? |
Yeah, 70Sixter, clear as mud in the dark on the backside of the moon!
I'm sure I can figure it out, it's just difficult to believe that Porsche doesn't provide better information for products they produce, market, and sell. "There must be something out there"....(I'm beginning to sound like an ET hunter, I know!) |
I believe I got it figured out!
Had some time to lay it out and look at everything and barring wife not coming home to help me lift it, I've got it securely mounted and ready to go. I took lots of pics.
Mounting bars as they will be on hard top: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pInstall01.jpg Bottom detail: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pInstall02.jpg Hardware: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pInstall03.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pInstall04.jpg |
I want to put it here:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pInstall05.jpg The two hoseclamps mount the top and as 70Sixter mentioned, lag into a stud. Hey, the whole thing hangs on 2 screws, so be careful to get some real 'meat'. And here it is: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pInstall06.jpg Details of bottom mount: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pInstall07.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pInstall08.jpg |
Much better. Now the wife will make a tasteful cover.

Uncle Bob's instruction should be preserved in DIY section.

very nice man.
i built something similar to this, well kinda, but it does hang the top on the wall :) i usec metal brackets in shape of square C, and drilled holes for the rear latches to go in and once inserted, turn and lock. i still have to figure out how to support the bottom(well front side of the hardtop) thx for the pics. BTW, quick request, can you tell me the length and diameter of the 3 pipes used? |
