Rear Plastic Window Protection
 

Hey do any of you put a towel or small blanket between the folded plastic window when you bring the top down?

Should I do it? If so, what should I use?

I tried doing it a few times, i thought it was a pain so i stopped doing it. If i was going to have the top down for an extended period of time, i would consider doing it again. I just used a large lint free cloth. One of those micro fiber things or a 100% cotton towell should do the trick too - you just want to avoid anything that could scratch it.

Whether to do it or not, it's up to you. I clean my window regularly and the difference that putting a towel or peice of cloth everytime i drop the top is not worth the minimal amount of protection i feel that I'm getting from it.

Porsche makes a fleece cloth for it, that is covered in one of there TSB's.

I personally don't do it, it's easier to replace the window if it gets screwed up. To much "fancy pants" stuff for me.

i agree i dont do it also, my window seems to find its own folding now which is good

The reason I ask is that I've installed the storage box with speakers in it and noticed the top has to tuck in very tightly now compared to the vinyl bag that was back there before.

Lots of space back there - even with the storage box I packed a few items under the top while moving cross country - basically I added the equivalent of almost a second box worth of clothing. The top continued to go up and down just fine.

I would really, really like to just replace the plastic window on my 01. Can you direct me how to replace just the window?

I had my rear window replaced with a tinted plastic version of the same by contacting an automotive upholstery shop. They supplied the new plastic windo and installed it for $400 around here in VA.
