Regular High Speed Driving
 

Hi,

Just wanted to get peoples feedback on regular high speed driving.

I travel twice per week about 120km to go to a branch office in another town. On these trips I generally average 160 - 200 kph (have sat on 220-230 on german autobahns). Which is great fun on the freeway!

I have the oil changed every 5-6k by my P-dealer, and serviced regularly at the correct intervals. Tyres are always Pirelli p-zero rosso's in good condition.

The car feels perfect at these spreeds and in someway better than normal lower highway speeds. Car now has 80,000k on it and feels like new.

Is there anything I should be aware of or be cheaking regularly when driving like this?

Not that I am an expert or anything. But I thought that these cars are bred from that sort of driving. As long as you keep up with maintenance there shouldn't be much of a problem. I wish there were highways here to allow some open driving as you have.

I did 140 mph in Canada which is 224 kph with the top down. It was great. If you are going to be running those high speeds regularly tire pressure and tire wear would be something to monitor closely as well as anything dealing with tires and brakes

While cheap "insurance" I think you could extend your oil change interval without harming the engine... Traveling at speeds like that, I would take into account brake pad wear, especially if you have frequent hard or long stops scrubbing off lots of speed (vs a gradual coast down of speed)

Pay particular attention to tire balance, tread wear, holes or cuts. alignment, brakes. As they wear, tires go out of balance and need to be re-balanced.

my slowdowns are usually coasting, not braking. My friend runs the local tyre shop in town and checks the car for me every 3-4 months.
