Out of Hibernation
Momma was unable to driver her 97 Boxster for all of last year, due to a medical condition. As spring (slowly) approaches, I decided to make ready the car for her.
No effort was made to properly store the car, which has not moved since last June. We kept expecting Momma to jump in and go for a spin. BUT, now she's all better and looking at the snow starting to dissappear. The battery was fully and completely dead. We jump started the car from a spare battery. It spun up and started on the third crank. It would idle poorly, with the engine oscillating. Depressing the throttle initially had no effect. After a minute or so, there was some throttle response. We only let it run for a minute or two at a time. Today we changed the oil and added some Lucasoil into the oil & gas. It started with a newly recharged battery. There was some initial oscillation in the engine speed, and again, poor throttle response. After a bit, the throttle responded as normal. Then, after the car was off for a couple of hours, the engine was started adn the same oscillation and zero throttle response started again. Gas is 7-8 months old, give or take. No problems were apparent when the car was parked. I will put the OBD sensor on the car tomorrow. If anyone has any guidance or suggestions, please fel fre to pass it on. Thanks, Doug |
Bad Gas is the 1st suspect, add some injector cleaner or octane boost, both these will dry out the fuel.
Then maybe bad MAF, bad plugs, could just be the DME still learning - it usually takes 5-10 miles of driving for it to re-adapt. |
Bad gas is the usual suspect here. Something like 60 days and it starts to turn to ****************.
