Litronic install without Control module???

Has anyone ever installed Litronics without the control panel and wiring harness, etc...?

I read on this site that its possible but the lights won't rotate up 1.5 degrees when you select high beam. Is this a big deal?

I'm asking because I've seen just the headlight units for cheaper than the whole retro kit.

It can be done without the control unit. But the low Xenon beam will not rotate up to fill in with the high halogen beam.

If you can connect 3 wires then you can hook up the control unit, so I do not understand why some people do not.

I've been looking for used Litronics on ebay and other places. I notice that some people sell just the headlight units without the extra stuff(control unit, etc.) that would come in the retro kit. These light module only auctions tend to close for a lot less than the full blown retro unit...

Is it a big deal for the headlights not to rotate up? Would it cause the lights to look bad when the high beams are on... Has anyone tried it?
thanks,

I would buy the whole package - but mostly on moral grounds.

Consider why would someone sell only the Headlights?

A: Because they put in NON - XENON headlights and these are extra.

B: Because they were given a pair for free

C: Because they are removing them from a vehicle off lease

D: Because they took 5 minutes to steal them off a parked car.

IMO the most common answer is probably D and I don't want to support the vandalizing of someone elses Porsche so that mine can have cooler looking lights that don't work quite as well as the whole kit.

I am sorry to say that "D" is not correct. but a more sad version known as "stupidassess" is known to take place when either:

1. You do not estimate stopping distance correctlly.

2. Drink and drive [actually boasted on another board - go figure]

3. Going too fast for the situation.

last but not least "notwatchingyourass" because you have to much speed and voila the perma grin turns to "oh ****************".

Now we have parts to sell, most cases [I like to think] are just people trying to break even, or they have turned there car in [leased] and do not want to take it in the pants - but they will anyway.

leasing = goodbye money/investment.

I buy and sell headlights all the time with sad stories attached.

The reason for the people not attaching the Litronic "wiring" harness is becasue it is complicated for most, and if you do not install well, you will be in a world of hurt diagnosing an electrical problem.

how much are the pieces outside the litronic units themselves, if purchased at the dealer? Anyone know off hand, or must I call the dealership?

You can find the "Piece" on E bay, which consists of a wiring harness for $100.00. Sometimes [rarely] they come up.

000 044 900 38 1 Headlight control unit, with mounting hardware

999 652 568 22 2 Electrical pin/receptacle, size 2
N 020 904 4 4 Tie wrap

996 612 988 00 1 Electrical wiring harness, including 4-pin plug housing (2 x)
