what do i need to hook up an ipod
I want to hook up an Ipod in my 01' w/ a CDR220. Can someone link me to the adapter. I found the one through the Porsche dealership but, I thought there was a way cheaper way to go about it. Maybe an auxillary input?
thank you. |
I bought the aux cable hookup from Epic ( a site sponsor). I can't find the link right now.
I think it comes with the radio keys. Simple to install - except you have to physically put the wires into the connector module (no big deal). Once you connect it, you have to activate the AUX function on your radio (should be instructions either with the kit or in your manual). Total cost was about 30 bucks. |

Becker makes the aux jack that plugs into the back of the CDR too.

Check out this link:

The Becker and EPIQ ones are the same. And it does come with the radio keys. Also, if you want a little more than just a 3.5mm headphone jack, do a search. I also have my setup on my site (sig.)

ipod connection
If you have a cd changer, all you need s one $5 cable from wal mart to make it work. Check the link at the start of this thread:

u really dont need a cable to make this work.. all you need is a raido adapter from wall mart that plugs into your ipod.. then plug it into a cigarette lighter, then u select the station you want.. then tune your car raido to the same station and wallah!.. it really has a good sound quality.

^ FM Transmitters, have really poor quality most of the time, and they get a lot of interference.

true but it really depends on what station u have it set on |
Can I just check...
Just want to check on the power options for the Ipod. The cable sold on:
http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=993 connects to the C3 plug on the CR/CDR-220. There is a 12V suppply on the C3 outlet - does this cable not pick up this power supply for charging? Or are there separate wires from the C3 plug that go to earth and power? Where does the CD changer get power from? Secondly, any difference between a firewire or USB charged Ipod? (I have both and cannot use USB charge for Firewire and vice versa). Which begs the next question - what voltage does an Ipod charge at, and if/when I upgrade to the iphone, will this mod be compatible? Many thanks to all who have been flogging this dead horse for a while.... |
That adapter will not pick up the power, you need that same cable with a power and ground wire. Then you simply wire tap the power and ground to the loose telephone power cable under the center console.
There is no difference between a Firewire and USB iPod when it comes to charging and playing with this cable. I know what you mean but it works in my car, and it will work with any 30-pin connector iPod and that includes the iPhone. |
